This really isn't anything new...many (if not most) large commerical sites already use "beacons" to gather information such as page hits and measure traffice within a site. The information that is obtained from these gifs is completely anonymous- its only when its used in conjunction with a cookie that any data from the user is collected/analyzed. It's good that Yahoo! has chosen to notify its users of its use of these technologies and allow them to opt out. There are plenty of other sites that are tracking you...they're just not telling you.
thanks Jeff... it's nice that Yahoo made it so easy to opt out... or did they??? For some reason, I wonder if "opting out" really works.
HEAD, I hope so. I normally don't pay attention to e-mails from companies, but I did to that one for some reason, and even went so far as to change my settings immediately to avoid being spammed.
So, if someone wanted to use Yahoo! to search for "Nazi Midget p*rn", Yahoo wouldn't know who it was, right? I just ask because I uhhhh have this friend, Joey Joe Joe Junior Shabadoo, and he wanted me to ask.
Brian...Nazi Midget p*rn? That's sick! But, if you e-mail me, I've got some really cool Guatemalan Leper p*rn to turn you on to! Especially this 16mm loop I got. It's called "Hector Pops a Blister". You'll love it! Honest!
