I love sitting close to the red rowdies section... I brought my friend from Toronto to the Rockets' game against the Raptors last season... Knowing that she is a Raptors fan, she ended up cheering for the Rockets because of the red rowdies... They are loud and funny IMO...
ha so this is your s/n, I knew I saw you post once awhile back, but forgot what it was, you back in town? we need to go to a game again, roderick_98 and I got season tickets with Kam and a few others as for the Rowdies, I have the deepest respect for them. I was also one of the originals during the injury/Swift season but the game went to, only Miguel and I were there from the board. The first game I sat with them vs the Cavs back in Dec. '06, made me appreciate what they do. My throat was shot after that game and couldn't imagine myself going through that in a 41 game season. I've been to trips with them to SA twice and Dallas once that were some of the best times. I know about 1/2 of the originals that have been there from the first season and are some of the best group of guys/gals/fans you can ever hangout with at a Rockets game. post like this irks me, b****ing about how they suck and annoying? What do you do? People can vouch for me where I stand as a fan. Do your part and thats all you got to worry about.
The Rowdies are terrific. If anything, they should double the number with a group at the other end. Create double the noise. Gotta dig the noise!
the price of the tickets has risen to the point that crazy fans cannot afford them. I promise you they have recieved complaints about the rowdies. I have seen that the tickets in that area go for less on secondary markets then they should.
Are you some douchebag corporate season ticket holder who shows up late, if ever for games? If so, I hope some Rocket Rowdy makes your Blackberry texting unbearable during games.
Are you comparing football fans with basketball fans?! There are only eight home games a year. Their are 42 home basketball games a year. Every NFL game is very important. Red Rowdies have been around a few years. You can't compare football tradition fan groups to the Red Rowdies. Get a clue. Dumbest post of the year!
eh? I didn't complain about the price of tixs, do you part as a fan, be loud, cheer for your team, and the rest speaks for itself, I have season tickets in the $13 area with 4 other guys here and we have a blast each and every game.
Without reading the rest of the thread, QFT. This is exactly how I feel. It's some forced ultra-diverse group of people acting like jackasses. Putting them in the corner of the lower bowl is hilarious too. They are just far enough from the court where the players won't pay attention to them, and right in the middle so they are sure to annoy everyone else but the opposing team. It's not the Rowdies fault though. They are obviously loyal fans. If I didn't have a job and could go to every home game, I would gladly take free Rockets tickets and act like a jackass. From the inside looking out, I bet you think you are doing a good thing. From the outside, the Rowdies are a perfect example of what is wrong with the TC: having to basically "pay" fans to act crazy because no one else will.
This thread in and of itself is a little annoying to me. Just one more example of how the BBS finds a way to gripe about everything. Toyota Center is too quiet! The Rowdies are obnoxious! Given that they are probably the best thing to happen to the TC since the move, I find it weak that people are going to bash them. To attend 41 games and go full tilt is a LOT harder than people give credit for. They aren't sitting and leaving early when there's an unwatchably bad game. They aren't taking it easy when attending the 4th game in a week. It takes a lot to do what they do, and couch-watchers that bash them are losers in my book. That said, I do agree that they could improve. I was also part of the pre-Rowdy group a few years ago that took advantage of the Rockets offering Clutchfans discounted tix in the endzone (opposite of the current location) to be a "Red Alert" section. I remember the Golden State game in particular was PHENOMENAL. The next season was the first official year of the Rowdies. The original idea was that Clutchfans would be buying into the section, but like what always happens every summer when this idea gets floated, almost no one actually went through on the purchase. Where I'm going with this is, I went through on buying my ticket package in the Rowdy section, only to find the Rowdies (while happy to have company) adopting a "Club Members Only" mentality. If you didn't audition, you don't count. I love the group a lot, but this has always disappointed me. As I see it, the goal of the Rowdies should be to infect the entire arena - to make it so that everyone going to the game can be a rowdy. It's what everyone's pined for since before the Rowdies came about and since: get everyone to be red, loud, and excited at the game. Unfortunately, the Rowdies are minimizing their impact by being more concerned about making themselves faux celebrities. They won't get attention if everyone's like them, so they (subconsciously) want to remain a "special" section. Starting with the second year, they got better about this - sending the Cowboy Rowdy up and down the section to get others going, but they could do an awful lot more. I doubt the Rockets would be against it if the Rowdies all split up and hit sections all over the arena to similarly get people going at the start of the 4th quarter. I wish they would understand that 90% of the "clever" chants are impossible to decipher even one section away. Clever as they may be, what's the point if no one can understand them? They're more repetitive and simple, but the basic chants are the ones that spread around the arena. Use posters along with the chants to make them more obvious. The Rowdies don't perfectly mesh with the way I was hoping they'd be back 3 years ago, but they're still top flight and have made a massive difference in the arena atmosphere. 4, 5 years ago the Toyota Center stunk and was indefensible. It's a lot better now, and they're one of the bigger reasons why. Evan
Totally agree with this part. Rowdies are suppose to help get everyone involved but that has not happened. I think the TC is just too big for one section to get everyone into the game. If the Rowdies can't get do it, then who can? I like the idea of putting the Rowdies in the lower bowl so they can be shown on the TV cameras. I think that would help a lot. Honestly, they get paid either way so I don't think the management even cares what goes on with the crowd.
You have got to give credit to JVG and the Rockets for trying to improve the homecourt atmosphere, but I have always thought it was kind of sad and ironic that the play of this team inspires so little fan enthusiasm at home that "canned" spirit has to be planted in the stadium. Some teams pump up the fans with their aggressive and exciting play, the TMac/Yao Rockets aren't one of them. Fans get pumped with hot shooting and theatrical dunks. Those moments are not common with this team. Winning ugly and losing ugly, now those are common. Winning counts with hardcore fans like us, but not "stadium" fans that are looking for "highlight" reel games. That is why the "Stevie" era was so popular. In your heart, you know I have a point.
No, but I find a quiet stadium annoying. This isn't golf or tennis and active and loud fans are a part of most spectator sports. It makes the game more interesting for the players, the fans and on TV. For instance the Vikings have tailored this years ad campaign around getting more fan involvement. Unfortunately Houston fans aren't Cameron Crazies or denizens of the Black Hole so why not allow a bunch of superfans to come and cheer with all their might for the Rockets? It makes the games much more entertaining. As for it being forced I got the chance to sit with the Rowdies once and it didn't seem forced at all and I didn't get the feelings the Rowdies had a members only mentality but had no trouble letting me come in and join them and even pulled me into the Rowdy huddle during the pregame. Outside of playoffs games it was the best experience that I've had at a pro-game of any sport and reminded me a lot more of being at a college game.
For the OP, if you think that the Rowdies were a creation by the Rox marketing department, you need to think again. The Rowdies as we know them now were "born" on February 24th, 2006 in a game against the Golden State Warriors for which ClutchFans members were offered discount tickets to attend as a group... http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=109319&page=1&pp=20&highlight=red+alert I was in attendance and got to meet several posters (shout out to oomp, ron413, and akperez) that night. We were so rowdy that David Wesley and JVG both made comments about it later on. Personally, I was more enamored with the name "Clutch Crazies," to the point that I had a t-shirt made with that moniker on the front, I still wear that shirt to this day. That tangent aside, there was nothing forced about the Rowdies, at least not during the two years I was a member. I came home hoarse (until I learned the magic of Chloraseptic during the game) night after night and attended 46 games that first year. It is definitely like a full time job, attending up to 4 games a week, showing up early for the Romp (which, BTW, we always invited any and all to join), and staying at least until the clock read 0:00. As much work as it was, I was always right there with the rest of the crazies loving every minute of it. We might have been annoying, but only to the suits who don't stand up until there are 9 minutes left in the game and they leave to miss traffic. If you are one of those fans, I absolutely LOVE that you find us "annoying." AMF!
They don't bug me much, then again, I'm not next to them. I'd hate to have to sit behind them since they stand the entire game. Does the RR section go all the way up to the top of the lower bowl? I don't express my team support like they do, but it's cool with me. As long as their way of cheering doesn't affect me directly, more power to them.
More reasons to whine, eh? Fine, let's get rid of the Rowdies, then the Rockets can play in the public library quietness of the Toyota Center. That would totally rule.
Well right now it is still like playing in a library with a couple of kids being obnoxious in the corner.
Except it's not literally a library ...it's a basketball game. So if you want peace and quite, stay home. ...so ba-humbug to you too. Go yell at some kids playing on your lawn. As andymoon said, if you find us annoying ...good. Can't please all the people all the time. That said, most non-debbie downers like the Rowdies to the point that the Rockets even are selling Red Rowdy packs giving the chance for others to sit with the group. Those tickets sold out. Suck on that.
