There is no chance a team that lost 65-21 gets in the title game. Zero. USC or Penn will jump them before that happens. Practically every team in the top 10 other than Tech would have to lose for them to get in. Its pretty much between OU/Texas and Flordia/Alabama unless something weird happens.
i everyone wins out it will be texas. how would you tell the longhorns they are not in over a team they beat? can't do it. tech only has a chance if ou loses. they beat ut but at home but only just, and 'horns were coming off a brutal stretch.
Its better than Ole Miss. USC has two games left. Texas has aTm OU has OSU Bama has Auburn and Florida Florida has FSU and Bama There is a slim chance. But it would take upset after upset to make it happen. Remember Nebraska?
The problem is if you're going to use head-to-head to look at Texas and OU, then you have to look at the head-the-head between Tech and Texas as well. what you are doing is basically just looking at Texas beating OU while completely ignoring the fact that Tech beat Texas. You can't have it both ways.
You'd have a great case, Fatty, if the voters alone decided who went to the title game. Unfortunately for Tech, they don't. Sorry.
Um, did you not read this thread? I'm not the guy who started the Texas-OU comparison. I wasn't posting to say that I think Texas deserves to be on top, or that it's a clear-cut choice. It's not. I'm not trying to have it both ways. All I'm saying is that if you're trying to compare Texas and OU -- which LegendKiller did -- it is absolutely stupid to use how they played against Tech as a bigger factor than how they played against each other. Don't read anything more into it.
if ou loses tech has an argument, but still a very poor one. texas' loss is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more respectable than the ass-kicking that tech just received. texas got nipped by a very good team on their home field. texas was flat that game. as i said, they were coming off a brutal stretch. just face it, tech has zero chance of making it to the nc game. zero.
Anticope - Since you haven't read most of the thread I'm guessing, here's the argument: Tech is no longer in the discussion due to the immense beat down they took on Saturday. When voters are comparing OU and UT, two teams with similar schedules and identical records who are competing for the same position, why shouldn't head to head matter? If it comes down to the end of the season and OU has lost and other teams have lost to where it comes down to UT vs TT, then the loss to TT comes into play for UT.
As far as where we go from here, I don't think anybody has any idea. The way the trend is going right now, it looks like OU will overtake UT. However, it seems like its going to come down to the human voters which it could go either way IMO.
I still don't get it if it is that simple than your punishing OU for beating tech by 40 something rather than a last second FG. It can't be that simple. H2H matters but it can't be the only reason. If it is than again OU is getting punished from taking Tech out of the 3 team equation.
Honestly, Tech would have fallen that far no matter how they lost. The computers and humans were going to punish them for a weak non conference schedule. When Alabama loses, they're going to drop like a rock, too. Nobody actually thinks they're the best team in the country, they're just the only undefeated team left.
Here's the BCS Top 8: 1.Alabama 2.Texas 3.Oklahoma 4.Florida 5.USC 6.Utah 7.Texas Tech 8.Penn State So, the games, with a playoff, would be: 1. Alabama vs 8. Penn State 2.Texas vs. 7. Texas Tech 3. Oklahoma vs. 6. Utah 4. Florida vs. 5.USC Man, those would be some good games. The higher ranked teams would be the home teams. We'd see passion like we've never seen in sports and the world would be great. Too bad Obama isn't already in office to change this.
If we went to a playoff, I'd be more in favor of a 12 or 16 team playoff so teams like Utah and Boise St. get a chance. I don't think they'd ever win it all but allow them the shot to prove it on the field.
But you can't just take Tech out of the equation because you don't think they are as good as the other two teams. I just think it is incredibly hypocritical when people are screaming about the OU-Texas game in a three-way tie scenario and refuse to look at the fact that all of these teams beat each other. And you can talk about how you think Tech beating Texas was a fluke (not saying you have necessarily said this but many people have), but IMO the real fluke in that game is that Texas was somehow in position to win after being dominated early on.
While it isn't fair to take Tech out of the equation, I personally think that's what voters are going to do. Style points and when you lose are taken into account in the BCS computers, both of those things are heavily against TT at this point and I think most voters are going to take that into huge consideration as well. I understand it isn't fair, but I personally think that's how its going to be looked at. Exactly how was Texas being in position to win a fluke? Fluke on UT or Tech's part?
