Would you make this trade. I say yes, and I think the Clippers might do it too.

Olawakandi has more potential then Cato simply because he is improving. Cato is a lump of coal in our stocking.

I don't think the Clips would do it. The last thing they need is another draft pick.

    Kidrock,

I don't think Sterling will sign all his players this summer, and Cato is a relativly cheap center by NBA standards.

i'd do it if we can't figure another way to package the toronto pick and our pick together to get something better. i'm more interested in another player from the clips, odom.

Judging by the comments stated in this thread (and above), the chances of the Clippers trading for Cato would appear to be slim to none.

Sterling doesn't play by NBA standards. He'll either play a cheap rookie, or resign Kandi.

I'm betting he signs Kandi fairly cheap too

but if they would make the trade so should we

    TPL,

That thread was from last year. Cato has actually shown up for some games this year & is probably as tradeable as he's ever going to get.

I'd do that trade in a heartbeat & I'd even throw in the Chicago Drew obligation to boot. However, I'd think that the Clippers could get a much better offer than that for him. But, they are the Clippers.

If we can get real lucky & get the #1 overall pick, I'd think that a Kandi(resigned for about $10 mill)/Odom for Cato/Moochie/Collier/KT & a swapping of picks might be a good starting place. We could then combine the Clipper pick(#13), the Toronto pick (#14?), & the Chicago Drew obligation to try & trade back up into the top 10. We could then draft a backup center. That would give us a lineup of:

    C: Kandi/Willis/Draft pick
    PF: Taylor/Griffin
    SF: Odom/Rice/T-Mo/Langhi(IL)
    SG: Mobley/Torres
    PG: Francis/Brown

Falk has said all of his clients are walking if Olowokandi is not re-signed, even though he is not one of his clients. I'm sure Sterling will listen to Falk if he knows what's good for him.

Plus, he's a free agent - it'd have to be a sign and trade after the draft.

I misread it at first and figured it'd be the Rocks' #1, but seeing as how it'd be Toronto's - I'd do the trade from the Rockets POV - I really think Kandi is a top 5 or so center in the making, but I really don't see why the Clips would trade him, considering their depth issues there.

    WHAT???????????????

    HAHAHHHHHHHHAHAAAAAAAHAHAHAAAAAAAAHAAH!!!!!

I don't care what you say, $42 million is NOT cheap, no matter how you put is. ESPECIALLY for a guy who averages 6 and 6. GIMME A F'N BREAK MAN.

Regardless, I'd expect LA to sign some veterans to fill in the roster spots.

Also, Cato won't make much less than Owolokandi. And, Sterling has a history of being a cheapskate.

Kandi man (and his agent) have already stated they will be demanding the MAX. Sterling will not pay it, but there may be a few others that will come close in the league.

I think draft picks are exactly what Sterling wants. He would rather pay a couple of million for a Rookie, then 10 million for Kandi.

I predict that he extends Brand (FOR MAX), before he gives Kandi a reality check. Who knows about Odom? Will he make Odom play next year, and work out a S&T next summer, or we he move him this summer?

    Enter Houston.

Falk does sort of owe us a debt of gratitude after Rice and MoT missed most of the year due to injury. :)

Kandi is 27, same as Cato. His numbers are all better than Cato, except for his 43% shooting. Of course, he gets his own shot in the post, unlike Cato. If I remember right, he started playing late, so he may still improve. Unfortunately, his shooting will suffer if he plays for us because he won't be able to shoot 60% against us anymore.

I really like the Kandi man, but I don't think Cato plus Toronto's pick will get it done. Maybe Cato+KT+Pick, or maybe Cato+filler+our pick might convince them but I honestly believe that some other team will give a deal thats at least this good, if not better. I'm not saying that the Rockets should give up this much, but I think they will have to to get the deal done.

Would you trade Cato and the #1 (plus Toronto's #1, as well) for Kandi?

'Cause that's what its going to take, especially if you want to involve Cato in any way. Htownhero is right on target, there are other teams who can offer better packages, so the Rocks' will have to be pretty sweet.

I'm quite sure that memories of the latest Kandi-Cato 'matchup' still linger in their collective minds.

If we had Olowokandi and someone posted that we should entertain a trade of Cato (and his 42 million dollar contract) and the 14th pick in a weak draft for a guy(Kandi) who seems to have turned the corner as far as becoming a good NBA center, we would laugh him off the board.

Perhaps they would consider entertaining the trade if we got a top 3 pick in the lottery but not for Kelly and #14

Sure why not. Kandi is the best true 5 in the league not named Big Aristotle.
