Seems to me like they sold their players when their value was high. Before the year started, Randolph was pretty much unmovable and cap space was a total pipedream. It's funny that it was the clippers that traded for Randolph. It proves that in the heirarchy of bad teams, the clippers are still the worst. The only team pathetic enough to even consider trading for Randolph was maybe the Grizzlies.
Walsh got rid of Zach and Crawford, in order to clear up some space for 2010, that's obvious. although Z-Bo is a rarer commodity than a TT or Cat, the Knicks can play small and still win with D'Antoni's system. This was a win-win trade for both teams IMO, Clips look good upfront with Kaman, Camby, and Z-Bo rotating, and Knicks now have 3 more guys that can run and score.
Yep, and if they manage to dump Eddy Curry's contract for another expiring in 2010, they would be able to sign 3 max contracts so they could end up with Wade/Lebron/Bosh or any of the other free agents in 2010 including Amare, Tmac and Redd.
