Aside from wanting to see Lebron in the finals again, I absolutely despise the Celtics/Kevin Garnett and shudder to think that this ass-clown may end up with as many rings as Dream. Who can the Cavs trade Wally's contract for at the deadline? If they trade for Vince Carter, aren't they essentially abetting their own demise by enabling the Nets to clear even more cap room? Wasn't the whole point of Milwaukee trading Mo Williams due to the fact that he and Redd didn't coexist? That would make Redd a bad fit in Cleveland...? Who else is out there? Miami stands to gain nothing by trading Marion who is expiring himself for Wally, and Marion is a non-factor in the playoffs anyways. Who else is out there?
I think all this is irrelevant. I don't think the Celtics can make it out of the East with the loss of James Posey. I like the Cavs against Boston if both teams were to face each other tomorrow in a 7 game series. Also the 76ers are going to be a load to handle once they get everything figured out. And there's always the Pistons who are solid and have Iverson who I actually think could lead a team further come playoff time. I'd give all 4 teams I mentioned Celtics, Cavs, Sixers, Pistons equal chance of making it out of the East.
I'm not so sure the Cavs need to make a trade. I think they are most likely to come out of the East intact as they are. I don't think Redd or Carter fit the grind it out, defensive mentality of the Cavs. Shawn Marion might fit in but who do the Cavs give up for him?
Wally's currently on their injury list for personal reasons. If that's code for trade... Camby + filler (Mike Tayor or DeAndre Jordan) = Wally Taking on Randolph's contract Clippers might find Wally's expiring contract appealing. An one year rental while Eric Gordon finds his feet. Cavs are going to lose Varejao and when he opts out he'll be unrestricted. Even if they tried to re-sign him, a new contract for Varejao would eat into their 2010 salary space. Camby's conveniently expires at the end of 09/10.
Funny, the Celtics bench is statistically way more productive this year than last. A healthy, confident Tony Allen does everything Posey does, only with more explosiveness.
If the rumored Vince Carter-for-Wally swap from last year is still on the table that might be hard to turn down if you're Cleveland. If that's all it takes to get him it's hard to say no. Regardless of his contract. LeBron commands so much attention that Vince would likely thrive in a lower pressure role where he isn't asked to be the focal point of the offense. Again, just look at the Cetlic's "big three" and how those guys that couldn't carry teams individually mesh so well together.
Lebron has never played with a all-star level 2 guard. I know Vince is old but if a wally for Vince trade went down that would almost be as big as the Gasol deal. IF that trade goes down The Cavs are coming out of the East for sure.
