Why isn't Dorsey seeing any time on the court, why not use him early in the season that way he can be a greater impact down the stretch?

I think at this early stage in Dorsey's career, Adelman knows that he'll more than likely be a human foul machine if currently put out on the court. Von Wafer with the boneheaded foul in the 4th quarter last night on Jason Terry before the ball was thrown in is probably a good example. I would probably give him by maybe game 50 plus in the season before he starts to see any clock with some good team practices.

Agreed. Dorsey is only going to start getting playing time once he's got a lot of good practices under his belt. The fact that he hasn't yet been sent down to the D-League shows how badly we need a backup center though.

Also, does anybody know if Wafer would be allowed to be traded right now, or is there a certain date for which we have to wait before we can trade him? He might end up being one of our more value trading chips if he continues to play well. I don't really see him getting much playing time once Battier comes back from injury, and Barry gets healthy, so maybe a combination of Luther + SF3 + Wafer could fetch us a decent (tall and alive) backup center.

because he isn't ready (or close to being ready) if he is still playing at the level he did during the preseason.

plus he is shorter as well. we need a legit TALL big man that can block shots...someone like...

I think we're fine. So, we lost the one game we didn't have Yao for. Having someone with height probably wouldn't have made McGrady and Artest play much better. It's not like Dampier brought home the W for them.

We can play well with our short power forwards at the center spot. Having another tall stiff isn't going to replace the offensive prowess of Yao Ming.

I am looking forward to bringing Deke back for his defense and rebounding and presence. But, we're early in the season. It's okay to lose a few games, as long as we make the playoffs in the end. That's where I really want Deke (and everyone else) to be ready to play.

(I am also disappointed that Dorsey didn't play. If he can't get on the court with Yao out, he can't get on at all.)

No, not having a tall defensive backup center did hurt us last night

The Mavs drove to the hoop at will, and we grabbed our first offensive rebound in the third quarter (and we missed 467 shots!). It's too easy to score on us when all you have to do is drive to the basket whenever you want

Is there a reason why we haven't signed Deke yet?

Let's go and get Greg Oden. If only he wasn't playing so well the last few games his value might have been low enough for us to snatch him cheap. :D

Hmmm...good point. I guess it's on Les after all.

A decent big will not only fill our immediate needs, it will also help reduce Yao's minutes in the future. At this point it seems even more necessary.

The need to bring in a good big man has been said many times since last season, even when Deke was still here. As to why this high-priority issue was not addressed or resolved in the off-season is indeed hard to understand.

The optimum playing time for Yao is probably somewhere between 30 to 33 minutes per game, depending on how well he can play at the high post. If he is able to pick up some skills and becomes more effective at the high post, then he can stay on the court a little bit longer; otherwise, his average playing time in the regular season should not exceed 32 minutes a game. This is especially so after he has gone through those major injuries in recent years. So, what the team needs now is to bring in a good athletics big man that can at least rebound (hopefully with good outlet passing) and play tough defense for 15 to 20 minutes a game. Without this, it would be hard for us to challenge the league’s top teams in the playoffs.

david harrison? hes young and hes tall and hes not good but id rather have him then hayes at the starting Center eventhough hayes is a beast. I heard nets might get wallace for a big. unles we get a good package to the nets we arent getting a big from them because there getting good offers. hopefully some expirings can change their minds.

We should sign another short, unathletic older player on the decline so that he would fit in.

Not only are all the big men power forwards, but they're undersized as well. Chuck Hayes was the starting cenetr last night at only 6'6"- his listed size.

I really hope people aren't dreaming of getting a starting calibre backup C. That's absolutely ridiculous.

We just need someone with size (at least 6'10) who has ONE distinguishable skill (rebounding, shotblocking, shooting, defense, etc).

Someone cheap and used like Jason Collins. The Thunder has a lot of C's lying around (Swift, Petro, Collison, Sene) maybe we could snag one of them.

Please, for the love of God don't expect us to get Kaman or something. It's not feasible at all. We just need to swap Luther Head for someone tall with ONE distinguishable skill and our roster will be balanced.
