The Oilers left. Earl, bless his heart, is nearly crippled. Warren is doing radio in Seattle, and the only Phillips still coaching is doing so in the armpit of Texas.

The Texans are my football team now. I just hope they improve.

I would bet 30 and older generally vote Oilers, but I don't know. I'm 35 and I'd take the Oilers. You feel like you've been robbed of your childhood fandom I guess when you lose your team. I'd take the current Texans with the Oiler uniforms and name. I feel zero for the Titans and I'd still feel zero if they were called the "Oilers"... it was the "Houston Oilers". I mean who really thinks about the Ravens being the old Browns and Cleveland getting an expansion franchise? The Cleveland Browns are just the Cleveland Browns.

I'll take any winning team with 'Houston' on it. I don't really give a frogs fat ass what colors they wear.

All things being equal, of COURSE I'd take the Oilers. But I'm not going to hide under my bed in a fetal position sucking my thumb while wishing they would come back. I'm going to cheer for the team that's here, as hard as it may be to do so.

When the Texans finally make the playoffs (20 years from now), it will mean more to me than it will to the so-called bandwagon fans. Much like the Rockets 1st championship meant more to me that the Johnny-come-latelys on the Richmond strip that night.

The Texans have more fans here than the Oilers will ever have again.

    They're gone.

    Vote Texans

    You can't do that.

I love the Columbia Blue and red and all, but when I think Oilers I immediately think Earl, Ernest, Warren, Al Smith, Haywood, Munchak, Matthews, Dishman... we could fill a page.

No recognizable names? The Oilers are dear to us *because* of the names, and what they did while they were here (minus choking in the playoffs over and over).

That said, I didn't vote in the poll. Mixed feelings.
    • Would I take the Oilers never having left over a 12-5 Texans team? Yep.
    • Would I take the Oilers coming back here after all this water under the bridge. Nope. It happened. It's over. It's in the past. Let's move on. And, let's try to move Bud Adams to Nashville. Or to Pakistan, or something.

A lot of us don't live in Houston anymore, so we don't get the Texans coverage which helps solidify fandom.

And now with NFL sunday ticket you can follow any team.

I like both the Titans and the Texans......and when they play I have no favorite...

The Oilers were my team...I moved to Houston in 1972, and followed them while I was growing up.....when all my friends were Cowboy fans and my team was 1-13, I still followed them.

They were always my first sports team love, followed closely by the Rockets.....so when they left, I had mixed emotions, I could see how stupid the city was for allowing them to leave, very short sighted...and I could see how greedy Bud Adams was......

But how calmer heads did not prevail is beyond me.

I followed the Titans until the last Oiler left, and now follow them a bit because of VY.

Today, I am more a fan of UT than the NFL....I mostly follow the NFL to see how my fantasy team is doing (Hint : Not well).

The Houston Oilers are, sadly, ancient history.

i answered the poll "great texan team"....but my answer is identical to msn. had the oilers never moved, they'd still be my team...and i wouldnt' want a substitute.

    but they did move.

    Dude.

The Titans go into the half of the AFC championship game (I know, it wasn't that round) leading 28-3. Coming out of the half, that prick Albert Haynesworth, having knocked Schaub out of the game earlier, picks a off a quick slant route to AJ from career backup Sage Rosenfumble and runs it all the way back for a 35-3 lead.

    THEN...

    :D :D :D

one thing the oilers always had that the texans have never developed is a personality. when the oilers sucked, it probably generated even more talk because they had players or coaches who were lightening rods. the texans are boring - good guys, etc., but deathly dull.

and i'm not complaining, per se - those personalities ultimately undid some great oiler teams. and the bagwell/biggio astros were every bit as generic and bland as the texans - they just won far more often.

anyway, it's no contest: great texan team all the way. the oilers are dead and buried in my backyard under a little cross i made using two popsicle sticks.

I root for the teams in Houston, why wouldn't I want a winner? Rooting for a sucky oilers team was no fun either.

Sounds funny to say, but sometimes I wish Eric Winston would get fined for missing a game to be with his wife during childbirth. Or that Rick Smith would get tanked and moon a wedding party at a hotel. Or that Richard Smith would punch Kyle Shanahan on national TV. Or that Matt Schaub would punch a newspaper reporter. Or that Gary Kubiak would start dressing in black and leaving tickets for Elvis at will-call.

Just something to spice up the pot in this otherwise bland watery generic store-bought gumbo.

I'm 40 and I voted Texans. I don't miss the soap opera the oilers were or the douchebag owner. I think you guys are just saying this because they are undefeated. Noone was saying this the year the Texans swept them.

I hate threads like these. Just because the Texans suck right now does not mean we don't support the team, and it definitely does not mean we would rather have another team, even if it's the Oilers. These losses suck right now, but they aren't NEARLY as disheartening that the devastating playoff losses the Oilers gave us each and every year. I really hope the Texans can get it together soon, because they are really alienating their fanbase by being so crappy.

Injured Texans starting QB Kevin Kolb comes off the bench wearing a Dan Pastorini flack jacket against doctors orders and leads the Texans all the way back, only to have the Titans tie the game on a late field goal.

In overtime the Texans get the ball first and pound the ball right at the Titans the drive stalls at the Titans 41. Texans field goal kicker and Dynamo standout my ex girlfriends kid drills the 58 yarder for the Super Bowl securing WIN!!!!!!
