I thought we should of really picked him up just to back up Yao. He is playing really good basketball mainly defense and defensive rebounding, the thing we really need right now. What do you guys think?

I don't agree with all your claims, but he is as a solid backup center as any you are going to find in this league.

Has copped alot because of the No 1 draft pick expectations.

If you look past that - you see he can provide some good backup post play for 10-20mins per game.

He would have cost too much money. We couldn't afford him.

Kwame or Turiaf would have been excellent backups but as somebody stated earlier, we couldn't get either of them without sacrificing Landry.

Having said that, the Rockets still have two glaring positional weaknesses:

    1. Backup C
    2. Starting point guard

Hopefully, Morey will address those weaknesses and in that order.

Detroit signed him for 2 years at 4 mill per season. That's not a bad contract.

He's a nice backup big, which is his ceiling anyways.

Everybody knows he can play when he wants to. You just can't depend on him to be anything more than a backup which is why he'll be effective in that role.

It amazes me that Kwame may have a longer NBA career than Kandi Man.

Mutombo can do what Kwame Brown can do and then some, which is why I'm mystified that he hasn't been signed yet. Deke can easily play effectively for 15 mpg behind Yao, and while you lose a lot offensively, you gain much more defensively and rebounding wise. Plus, less stress and wear and tear on Yao's fragile body. He needs to be signed asap.

    Why?

Kwame might have butter hands but he is a very solid post defender and a decent rebounder.

He might not be great on offense, nor good, nor average, but his defense and size alone will keep him around in this league for years.

Talent-wise, Kandi was way ahead of Kwame, but he also made an art form of dogging it. Kandi would almost seem to be rubbing his coach's face in it.<BR>

He's being payed 4 million a year right now while averaging 4.5 pts, 3.6 rebs and .6 assists. You want Carl Landry, Luis Scola and even Chuck Hayes to go berserk? You don't go from signing quality guys to dirt-cheap contracts to shelling out 4 million for a back up C lol...

Hmm...what do you think of signing the Kandi Man as our backup backup c (after Deke)? I heard he paid his own way just to try out for Phoenix, so maybe he now has the desire to play ball? Of course we'd need another roster spot to sign him, but knowing Morey he'd probably make a 2 (or 3) for 1 trade at the deadline to get us under the cap...
