The offense looked really great in stretches last year and looked pretty smooth tonight. It wasn't just that shots were falling (Luis and Artest were pretty lousy from teh field) but people were moving. Never did it feel like we were just standing around waiting for something to happen. Sometimes we would get motion and nothing would come out of it causing a rushed shot, but that's better than just standing still as the shotclock dwindles.

    I see a bright future :D

BB IQ isn't the problem. It's the lack of health with our stars and the lack of chemistry (no Battier contributes to that big time). If our starting lineup is Yao, Scola, Battier, McGrady, and Alston, then I don't want some kind of motion offense being run. That is a team that should back it down to Yao, use T-Mac's playmaking skills, play great defense, and go from there. None of those guys are real fast and some lack stamina, so moving them without the ball all the time isn't exactly a good idea.

The 2nd unit is what should have more motion. More speed and more athleticism. Artest knows about the motion offense, so he'll be a part of that when he starts coming off the bench.

Intelligence is probably the last thing that's wrong with our main rotation guys.

I disagree with the statement that basketball players in the 80's had higher basketball IQ. It is actually much simpler to play in a mandatory man to man defensive system, because all you have to do is spread the floor , if the defense doubles someone is open. Now it is more complicated with the hybrid of man to man and zone defense.

If I'm not mistaken , the rule changes were implemented sometime after Iverson singlehandedly took the sixers to the finals based solely on his individual talent. After the rule changes were implemented , the teams that won the championship or reached the finals were more team oriented , the Spurs, the Pistons, even the Lakers and just last year the Celtics.

With the league essentially discarding the illegal defense call and replacing it with a defensive three second violation teams are given more flexibility to hedge on defense and to guard space as long as it is outside the three second area. So basically the NBA game is more team oriented now as a result of the rule changes.
