I will be giving an update on where we are on our draft pick until the end of the season so everyone will know where we stand in this years upcoming lottery. I will also be tracking Toronto's progress; hoping and praying they make it into the playoffs. For those of you that dont know, we get the Raptors pick this year, provided they indeed make the playoffs. Here is a link if you want to see the NBA standings as brought to you by ESPN. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/standings As of Sunday March 17, 2002 Houston Rockets 7th pick Toronto Raptors (not in the playoff picture yet) 10th pick (we do not get the pick if the raptors dont make the playoffs, thus the pick is lottery-protected) I will also give other details that concern the Rockets such as who we need to root for in order to get a higher pick. Teams such as Atlanta and New York need to win as may games as possible so Houston can move up. Just something I thought I'd do to get us ready for draft time!
Since you're already going through the trouble, how about adding by how many games ahead/behind we are of the team just behind us. For example: Rockets 7th; Denver 6th; 1 game ahead; New York 8th; 1/2 game behind
Rockets pick...tied for the 6th pick with Atlanta and New York. Toronto's pick...tied with Phoenix for the 9th pick As far as Houston's pick is concerned, they are 4 games behind Phoenix and they are 5 games ahead of denver so don't expect them to move anytime soon. What we need is for Atlanta, New York, and Cleveland to WIN. We also need the Raptors to WIN. thank you for the idea Relativist, I'll keep working on it.
as of Tuesday March 19, 2002 Rockets 25-41 6th pick Raptors 30-37 tied with Phoenix for the 9th pick For those keeping up with it, we need Toronto to have the 14th pick or worse in order for us to obtain the draft pick. In short, Toronto needs to make the playoffs. GAMES OF SIGNIFICANCE FOR: Tuesday, March 19 New Jersey at Cleveland 7:00 PM Need Cavs to WIN Toronto at Minnesota 8:00 PM Need Raptors to WIN NY Knicks at Memphis 8:00 PM Need Knicks to WIN Atlanta at Chicago 8:30 PM Need Hawks to WIN Houston at Sacramento 9:30 PM Need Rocks to LOSE One thing I noticed in the standings that I think is key: Playoff teams in the West have a .500 record or better on the ROAD...the exception? The Jazz at 16-18 on the road. Conversely, take a look at the Rockets road record at 8-23...Ouch!
In all fairness, if we're keeping track of the Raptors playoff posibilities, we must also look at the Sixers-Heat game, hoping for the Sixers to win.
Would it not suck if we end up with the 5th pick but 3 teams behind us get the top 3? We end up with #8? Yuck. Here's hoping it's our turn to win the lottery.
It's official ... I too have turned to the darkside. The Rockets are now a mediocre 25-42, thanks to a pummelling by the Kings. That puts us in 5th place...and I won the lottery on my second try. The downside is that there are many teams battling for our spot. If we win just one too many games, we could easily drop to 8th and halve our chances of winning the lottery. We'd better see a lot of the fighting whities the rest of this season - go JC and Damn Dan Lanky!
As of Wed. March 20, 2002 Rockets tied with Cleveland for the 5th pick Raptors with the 9th pick GAMES OF SIGNIFICANCE for Wednesday night Cleveland at Boston Celts need to WIN Miami at Philadelphia 76ers need to WIN Washington at Denver hard to decide on since this game has different implications. If Wizards win, it gets Nugs a step closer to passing the Rocks. If Nugs win, it helps toronto.
