You forgot to mention how much of a beast he was back then. Now, he ain't that same dude. Without his knees he's just a decent rebounding jumpshooter. I don't see him being much of an upgrade over Scola and Landry. So why bother?
I just want Deke back. Even at his age the man can freaking play. Nobody just cruises in make layups when Deke is around.
I hate to disagree with you Pmac, but with the rockets in a win now situation I would take McDyess over both Scola and Landry without much thought. McDyess would be a huge coupe for the rockets, but from all reports it looks as if he's going back to Detroit. Chris Webber on NBAtv talked very highly of him and basically said he was the backbone for the Pistons.
DD, if we sign both Deke and McDyess, it's not a matter of playing time. Yes McDyess would get some minutes but it's more about experience.
Landry can't be traded to the Bobcats for 1 year. I think he also has the right to refuse being traded this season. A starting position elsewhere, or playing for another contender, or playing for Milwaukee or Indiana might be attractive to him.
This is where I have to disagree with you my friend. Barry has been doing the little things for us. Not only that, It's only 7 games into the season. Come on now man... Battier and Barry will be able to space the floor together. Also.... Mike James did something for us. He brought us Ron Artest.... James brought in B. Jackson which lead up to... ARTEST...
Reading comprehension... he said "Doesn't McDyess live in Houston?" He just had the wrong punctuation.
McDyess played Center in Detroit. He's a bit undersized but he can play the position well and is very well-rounded. He would be a great signing.
I don't think we should give up Scola or Landry to get McDyess. McDyess will probably give you another year or two, and I don't want to give up our future for a rental. I agree that our more pressing need is PG and an athletic backup center. I'm still hoping Steve Francis will make an apperance soon.
Are you really already declaring Barry a bust? I think he was a hell of a signing and will prove to be an important part of this team. He moves better than anyone in this offense. When guys start to find him at the right times, it will be fun to watch him in the game.. (on offense, that is)
Maybe but this season, he is just uber slow, especially on defense.....maybe when Tmac gets healthy and he can hit the 3s...but right now he looks awful. DD
Man, to hell with Chuck Hayes. I respect what he brings (defense), but I'm tired of going 4 on 5 when he is in the game. McDyess is just as good of a defender and he can score. His game is perfect to play alongside Yao because he has a midrange game....similar to Landry, just he isn't a liability on the boards or defensively. When we got to the bench now we get a bunch of dudes on the smaller side of the spectrum. McDyess has height and can block shots. Deke can do the same thing...but again, he is also a liability offensively. If you can bring them in I say go for it. Who cares if Dorsey doesn't see any PT? My only question is why does Les have to avoid paying lux tax to get more help....cheap b*stard. Either you wanna win or you don't.....
How is that post stupid? You have put all your chips on the table this season. It's silly to now try to limit yourself with a budget. Are you all in or aren't you? As an owner, are you really trying to do everything you can to win (yes, that involves paying lux tax for one season).
Because people will never be satisfied. Why not cut Francis and bring in Marbury after he gets bought out? Who cares if we're paying Francis his salary? Les should absorb the hit and go for it this season! Why not cut Head if we can't find someone who's willing to take him for a 2nd rndr? Or better yet, why not trade Head and Francis for someone with a bloated contract, as long as they help us in the short term? I know you said only 1 season, but that's not always the case when you say "do whatever it takes financially to make it happen". But even so, where does it end? He's right up against the luxury tax--that's pretty legitimate in terms of "going for it" to me. You don't have to be Mark Cuban or Dan Snyder with your money to say you care (and look where it got those guys, too)
