He went 1 on 1 a whole lot, and had 5 TO's and a +/- of -10 to prove it. We all knew he could do that.

This is the second player I am regretting we passed on. The french guy Badum is playing very good in Portland too.

we should have kept green for the future he's going to be a solid player in a few years hes really young. I still don't know why we cut him he was so happy here should have saved him for injured reserve at least

Are you serious? You do know there are 4 other players on the floor at the same time, right?

The +/- stat is the most worthless statistic in judging players, it doesn't come close to telling how a player performed.

Gerald had some turnover issues, but that was just one game....he is averaging around 1 turnover a game, which is pretty good for a SG/SF.

If anyone has been watching the Rockets settling for 3 pointer after 3 pointer, even when they are not going down, they would see the value of a player that doesn't settle but goes by the man closing out on him to set up either a layup, a midrange shot, a dunk or a pass as the defense scrambles.

Giving up Gerald Green for basically Von Wafer was a horrible mistake...

The light bulb apparently has gone on for him, and it would have made the Rockets so much better to have him competing in training camp with Tmac, Artest and Battier etc.

GG would have learned professionalism and he would have pushed all of them with his athleticism, making our team better.

I hope Morey goes and gets him this next offseason.

From what I understand, Green gave up on us. We were going to give him a chance if he showed that he wasn't going to mess around. Then I think a couple of days he's late to practice and its over. I think we were still going to look at him this season but Dallas just flatout signed him.

I don't think we would see the same Green if we had kept him as a 15th man. Green's issue has always been his lack of dedication. He's basically been given the backup SG/SF job by default because the Mavs don't have anyone else that can score. He seems like the type of guy that would play his best when given a shot in the rotation, but off the court make no effort to better himself. That doesn't sound like a 15th man to me, that sounds like an emergency SG/SF solution, which is exactly what he is with the Mavs.

I do agree, he had to bottom out to take it seriously.....and the Rockets probably helped him there.....but he is a free agent at the end of this year.....if he continues to grow, he is probably a full MLE waiting to happen.

Even when a team is in win now mode, its still good to have guys with a high ceiling. When u don't have talented players that can develop, then your team gets old, slow and marginal. I like using the spurs as an example. I remember them getting stephen jackson and he sat on the bench. Everyone knew he had a lot of talent, but had professionalism issues. Pop managed to nuture the talent enough to keep manu on the bench as a rookie. He had ups and downs in 03, but they stayed with him and they wouldn't have won the title without him. U look at the yrs of not drafting and nuturing young explosive talent is catching up with the spurs.

Point being, some people need more time to grow up than others. I became mature faster than some of my friends because I had a child my 2nd yr of college. If you take high ceiling guys, you get high ceiling results. Posters need to stop thinking systems and think players. I don't want to sound like his agent but this offrnse is suited for atheletes and slashers as well as shooters. Who is the bigger threat slashing off a scissor cut, barry, head or green? When Ariza comes in, who better to matchup with him barry, head, or green? When Brooks is pushing the tempo, who is better at filling the lane among those same 3? If you don't think atheletes can play under adelman, go look at his portland teams. They had a slow duckworth at center, but with clyde, kersey, porter, buck, robinson, and all those guys, they would run u in the ground. Quickness, speed, atheleticism, length, and explosion count in hoops also. I know head and barry are the 3pt shooters and both of their playing times will be limited when shane comes back, but developing green couldve given you a reason next summer to move shane if u resign artest. He wouldve been good as that bridge for 26 mins behind ron and tracy. I've been talking about this team being more atheletic to compensate for a lot of non atheletic starting 5. That's another reason why I wouldve taken Deandre over Dorsey. If you're going to take a athelete, you might as well take a 7fter vs a 6'6 pf.

Looks like getting cut was the best thing that happened to him.

Unless you think Von, Head or DJ are better players than Gerald...then hush up. Yeah, our roster is stacked....but we still had spots 11-15...that we used on those guys. I like big, athletic wings that can shoot and attack the basket. Ok, his defense sucks. So does Head's. He seems to be a better offensive player than Von or DJ.

It was a mistake to let him walk. Hopefully we won’t suffer for it in later seasons...when we are searching for big wings that can score. I just don't think we like young, big wings in Houston (Gay, Gerald, etc).

LA is stacked. When guys like Walton and Mihm can't even get on the floor, that's a talented roster. They rox are just overloaded with replicated players at the same position. Theres a difference.

While true, its rare for a guy to be valued so high when he enters the league, bottom out in 3-4 years and then turn around and become a better than average player for multiple years.

True, you'll get guys that come out of nowhere and become good, but lets be real. Most of Green's "potential" is based around the hype he had when he joined the league. Green could've been Stromile all over again.

And maybe Green will turn out to be a really good player, but no one is ever going to convince me that he would've been able to do that as a 15th man on this roster.

Some guys just need a coach to give them a chance, and we couldn't do that seeing as we had 5 guys we could play ahead of him between the 2 and 3 spots. It would be disrespectful to those guys that had worked so hard to say "we know you've worked hard for your spot in the rotation, but we are going to give this guy that hasn't proven squat on the team your spot just because we think if we do he might produce for us".

We can complain about replicated players or roster spots 11-15 or how much deeper LA is than us or whatever. The fact is our top two players are playing like crap and that's why we are losing.

This argument about Green should only continue when somebody wants to argue that Wafer is better than Green.

Otherwise we should have kept Green.

As far as Green is concerned though.... he is lucky to be in Dallas cause he would be on the bench here.

I still put my stock in this story about Green:

The way he was hanging out there for so long after he was cut, he absolutely had to do something to become so toxic that he had to wait around for a summer leage invitation before anybody picked him up.

Assuming the story is true, I have no problem with the Rockets cutting him and replacing him with a less talented player.

I would take Mike Harris over this punk Green right now.

Like Von Wafer, he wouldn't get a single minute on this team unless we lose players to injury. Where would he play right now for us if we were healthy? He doesn't deserve to take a single minute from T-Mac, Artest, Battier, or Barry.

I would take Green over Head maybe and that's about it. Whooptie doo. It's amazing at you guys' fascination over bench fodder.

I totally agree. Also, the Rockets are operating on the assumption that you can "build around" Yao and TMac, that they are going to perform at Star level. False assumption: you are talking about two of the most injury prone players in the league, both who have relatively passive personalities. On top of that, their physical decline appears to be aggressive. Big problem.

The notion that in a few weeks these issues are all going away is unlikely. Miracles do happen, just not often.

Normally, I would agree. However, The rest of the starters were at +3 at the minimum. Green was the only starter in the red.

We shouldn't pay much attention to the limited minutes he was receiving prior to Howard's injury. If he's going to help the Mavericks win some games, he needs to cut down on the TO's going forward.

To me, the horrible mistake was letting Azubuike go. We could use him.

I am SOOOO on board with you there too my friend...we keep letting these athletic SF/SG go because we have Tmac....who is decaying....I would go the opposite direction and bring em in and compete with him for his time.

If he can't keep up or commit...ship his arse out.

we let go of green cuz we thought we're stacked at the sg position, but as of current, tmac is not himself, barry has been disappointing and head is still head. we could use his dunks too.

Me too. The Rockets had no reason to cut the 15th man in mid-season, but they did. I trust Morey.

    By the way, Dallas sucks.
