What would you have made yourself do as a kid? Now remember, it could back fire. You could have hated being "made" to do something and rebelled to become a disease monkey or some geek mobster or something, worse off than you are now. So, you can always say "nothing different." My choice: Ballet and Tap Dancing. My mom was a ballet teacher, and I had to sit and watch the dance class and my sisters, because the class was only for girls (I thought) and I was too young to be at home by myself. Later, I told her (at like 21 when I got season tickets to the ballet), and she almost cried thinking I wouldn't have wanted it. Dancing is in my blood. I am Billy Elliott! That movie makes my heart pump, and I have trouble watching it sitting down.
If I were my parents... I wouldn't be a control freak and an alcoholic. Thank you. Thank you. I'll be here all week. Please tip your bartenders and waitresses.
I made a half-@ssed attempt at piano lessons when I was 10 or so & really hated it. I was way too busy playing baseball/basketball/football & just generally goofing around outside to sit down & learn. Now, at 27, I'd like to learn to play the guitar but have no music background whatsoever, so it'll be that much harder. When I have kids, I'll force my firstborn son to be left-handed. Then I'll teach him to pitch a baseball. He will also be immersed in the joys of golf & kicking a football; all I need is for 1 of the 3 to work out and....$$$CA-CHING$$$
Pitch, pitch, and pitch some more. Although lately I've devoted all non basketball and running time to pitching, I can't help but ponder what could of been if I started playing at a much younger age.
Huh? You had no musical background at 10 either. I know brilliant musicians that didn't start playing until their 30's. Go for it if you want to. crispee: As far as ballet goes, well, you could...um...you should...uh...hmmm. Sorry you missed out on all that.
id make me pick up the guitar at an earlier age and buy me a very nice classic rock album catalog so i could appreciate what good music is at an early age...
I would of made myself study a lot harder in school and be much more involved in my academics. Sometimes, I really regret not going to college
Two things: (1) I'd have made me sit up straight and never slouch. (2) I'd have put myself in French school from the start. My siblings and I were put in Awty's French section starting when I was in 6th grade as a crash course to learn the mother tongue. Given my personality, I didn't take well to it. But, I think I could have if I had started when I was very young. My French is good for an American, and I can get directions to the bathroom in Paris, but it isn't really where I'd like it to be. It has left me to wonder how I will conduct my own children's education. Was the problem only the timing, or was it the half-immersion? Will it get ugly if my kids speak French better than I do? Will it mean I have to recommit myself to learning the language and can I really develop a high fluency without immersion? The ideal solution is to go live in France for a few years (worked well for my brother) -- I have enough relatives there that I won't starve, but how will I pay for my student loans?
