so i was out on the floor right now and i realized i shook one of the workers hand with my left hand which is considered rude in my culture so i apologized to her and shooked with my right hand afterwards. another co-worker said that is rude in her culture too but chinese people have a different type of greeting that they dont shake hands. now i asked her what it was but i guess it embarrassed her to be put on the spot on like that and she wouldnt do it. (there were about 6 people around her cubicle since her cubemates were training) i kept asking her but she wouldnt show me and told me to find out on my own. so i present to my fellow clutchizens who are of chinese origin or descent was she telling the truth and is there some secret hand greeting and if so what is it so I can greet her with it or was she just pulling my leg? thanks in advance
Dunno, but I know Viets bow and pay respect with our arms folded. There isn't much physical contact in our lives it seems.
Either that, or he's ignorant. Because that's definitely not true. I can see how a Chinese person(although likely not an American of Asian descent) might feel awkward with a handshake. But there's certainly no special hand gestures required. Just do the proper greeting minus the body contact and it's all good.
i just read something online about an older but formal greeting of interlocking fingers and moving them up and down? is that something any of you guys have heard of?
What are you guys, old school? You're in America now and Barack Obama is president. Give a terrorist fist-jab and a firm slap on the buttocks.
LOL, I didn't know there was a wrong way for a hand greeting. Isn't it good enough that their actually shaking your hand, regardless of which hand they are using? Seems a little over the top.

She's probably looking for the handshake that involves you tickling her wrist with your middle finger while shaking it.
Well if you watched some international news, you would see that Chinese officials have no problem shaking hands
