I am telling you guys, and I mean it...there is a guy on TV in England that spoofs being a hip hop guy.... His name is Ali-G and he interviews all these famous people and it is the FUNNIES F...ING thing I have ever seen. It is not politically correct but it is SIDE splitting funny. Ali-G...ah man I am laughing just thinking about it. DaDakota PS Laff In was a great show too.
Was Almost Live actually aired outside of Seattle? They show repeats from the late 80s and early 90s now at 1:00 after SNL. The Bill Nye sketches are pretty good. Speed Walker! Saturday Night Live would be 10 times better if there was a celebrity Jeopardy every episode.
Elvis, You know Ali-G? I am going over there next week and am getting all the Ali-G DVDs....that guy is hilarious. He also does a bit where he pretends to be an Arab reporter, and he goes to learn some proper ettiquette...very funny. DaDakota
http://www.msn.co.uk/specials/alig/ OMFG, He has a movie coming out, I guarantee it will be a riot. DaDakota
A bit off topic here. BBC ran all twelve Fawlty Towers episodes this past weekend as part of a John Cleese tribute. (I Tivo'd them). Does anyone know why they only did twelve episodes? I think they may be the funniest stuff ever put on film.
Ali G will have a limited shelf life. There have been better comedy characterisations, especially from Harry Enfield and Paul Whitehouse. You may not know these two but if you have seen any of 'The Fast Show' programmes Paul Whitehouse is in a number of those sketches (he's one of the 'suits you sir' people, Ted the old retainer, Ron Manager and many others. Enfield's best was a Kebab shop owner called Stavros, a hilarious character but Enfield knows when to stop them, Cohen (ali G) does not. Reviews for the Ali G film suggest it is awful. Jamesom. John Cleese and Connie Booth (who wrote it) delibrately stopped at 12 Fawlty Towers episodes. They thought it was better to do that and have every one a classic than do, say, 50 of which 15 were good and the rest varying between ok, poor and absolute turkeys. If the writers of, say, Frasier, had followed that sort of thinking - aiming at say 30 episodes - they would be up their with the very best. Boutros Botrous Ghali
Pirahna, That show was canceled, they SAY that they only wrote 12 for artistic reasons, but in reality it was simply canceled. I agree that Ali G's best work is the interview segments.... DaDakota
I'm sorry Dakota, you couldn't be more wrong. The audience figures and the general reaction were such that the BBC were very keen (meaning absolutely begging) to commission more episodes. John Cleese has actually said that he and Connie weren't that interested in doing even a second series but gave in to public demand.
