Still time, man. According to history, true centers peak around their thirties. Shaq peaked at 28, Hakeem at 30. Yao's stats increase every year. It seems the best year is yet to come.

It happened back when he was in high school I think. He admited that his vertical took a big drop after he recovered. I think the injury was to his foot too.

any information on it? I hope he's getting better and better on boards and just dunking the ******* ball.

I was wondering why a 7'6 could not even finish above the rim with a sensational slam? Why he gets used to that ******* jumphook or would like to glass it in when he''s wide open in the paint?

Because the other option at the number one spot was Jay Williams. And we all know what happened to that guy...

You're giving him too much credit, too. It's more like

How about trade Yao for Bynum? I think both teams will be happy. Houston get an athletic big and in Lakers eyes, Yao can still beat Bynum when one on one.

Who cares what his vertical is he is 7-6. It is really hard to play against tall even if they aren't that good. Luckily for us Yao does have some skill so he should be even better.

Yao's verticle is at least 20ins. recently he has been reluctant to jump, which is not out of the orinary as at present he seems to be reluctant to do most things that a 7'6" Center should be doing!!! I wonder why?? :p
There must me a reason to explain this!!Y

REBOUNDING is a function of 4 things

    1) reach (standing reach + vertical)
    2) strength (to establish and maintain positioning)
    3) anticipation (experience to know when and where to establish your position and when and where the ball will come off the rim)

    and most most importantly

    4) reaction (hand/foot speed and reactions to get to the ball before others when it goes somewhere you dont expect)

    yao's vertical is almost a non-issue because he's so

    1) tall
    2) strong base literally immovable by anyone in the league
    3) smart BB IQ

yet yao is a average rebounder/below average offensive rebounder

why? reactions. almost everyone else in the league can get to loose balls faster than yao, or make adjustments in on the fly quicker than yao.

so yeah, not vertical, although yao does have some liabilities when it comes to rebounds

Yao's tree trunk legs is rooted to the ground. The only vertical you see from Yao is his height.

As I noted before I tried posting a message with nothing but spaces but thats not allowed...if the other team wants to stop yao they don't need to double him or front him or anything just put in some 1 inch speed bumps at half court and BAM yao is stuck... OR Tmac hurts his back trying to give Yao a boost.

Hmmm, maybe Yao is jumping less for good reason? I mean jumping expends a ton of energy. Why do you think boxers jump rope so often? But its also horrible on the joints and feet, which is only compounded when you weight 315 pounds. Maybe this is part of the plan to keep Yao healthy while keeping him on the floor as much as possible?

Yeah that makes alot of sense seeing as how by him not being able to jump and getting *****ted on every opportunity is in turn making the rockets lose games so what would be the point in him being healthy if they're going to lose anyways?

Worse than his vertical is his positioning........ but they are both lacking.

He still affects a lot of shots that no one else in the league does as well.

i don't expect him to jump high but play hard and that will be enough IMO.

The Chinese government made Yao, they also planted anti-vertical chips in his feet for when the day comes he retires from International basketball they can turn the anti-vertical chips on and NOBODY can enjoy Yao's basketball gift.
