At Whole Foods on Woodway. It's funny because I met Rudy there last week too. I shop there all the time and have never seen anyone before that. I was in produce when Dream walked by. I said, hey dream, and he said, how you doing? I wanted to talk to him more, but I didn't want him to get all tired out and winded.
So, you didn't even say "Fine, and how are you today, sir?" or you could have said: "Fine, I'm just here grazing. Here you want some Zen Party Mix I pilfered from bulk?" ------------------ The farther the Rockets move down the standings, the farther I move down the bleachers.
cause if he said anything more dream would probably give him a speech about how much his autograph is worth ------------------ Shane "Save Our Rockets" "Life without basketball in Houston........without an arena that is what it will be"
Did he look like he was doing well in Produce? Would he grab some bananas, reach for the buggy and drop them a foot short? ------------------
i dont know what this crap about dream giving speeches on his autograph is all about. i can speak from experience, ive met him multiple times, all at the mosque (place of worship for muslim ppl) and the first time was a GIGANTIC group of ppl and he stood there and patiently signed autographs for everyone that asked. i have gotten him to sign things from basketball cards to basketballs, to just plain old sheets of paper and he has never declined. ------------------ you are to be praised by gods and revered as women.
who are all of these new people? are you guys just recycling yourselves? hmmm... that reminds me I have to ask for the handle ShannonTweed34. ------------------
that was funny HEB. I dont want no bruised bannanas. Im surprised Hakeem did his own shopping. was it coupon day? Maybe Hakeem is scared that Alexander isnt gonna pay him for when he retires in the summer. ------------------ Not only am I president of the WaltWizFanClub, I'm also the member. Oh yeah, and DoctorofDunk, Houston Rocks, RM95, Rocket Fan, TexSalsa, AzimdaDream, and Shanna.
You got him to sign a plain ole sheet!! That didn't work for me. Come to think of it...maybe I'm the reason he doesn't sign anymore. I should have waiting 'till after we got out of our stalls.
i met him here in austin during training camp. I didnt even have to ask. He just walked up to me and asked for where to sign. In shock(first time ever seeing him in person) i said," um um um here" and then asked hard day at practice today?. He said,"yeah". ------------------
i know this thread is about Hakeem, but i saw KT a few weeks ago at Foley's. A few people recognized him and were asking him for his autograph, but there was this one girl who was talking so loud. Her friend asked her who he was and she said something like, "oh, that's just Kenny Thomas, if it was Steve Francis or someone important, i would ask for his autograph." And the funny thing is that Kenny heard her and he just turned around and glanced at her for awhile. I thought it was pretty funny cuz the girl just turned all red and walked away. ------------------
I wouldn't care whether it was Steve Francis or Devin Gray, if I got to see any of them anywhere I'd be pretty excited. I guess because they really are people you can "look up" to! ------------------ Reporter:What do you guys need to do in order to beat this team? Charles Barkley:Score more points than they do.
i'm just speaking from experience i;ve met hakeem at least 8 times and watched him lecture to me and other kids about how much his autograph was worth and about how he's not signing because we might sell it etc et cetc. i'm not doubting yall but just saying get him completely alone away from public and cameras and another side comes out to him. he was even meaner then charles about it. hakeem quote " you might" sell my autograph and get lots of money ------------------ Shane "Save Our Rockets" "Life without basketball in Houston........without an arena that is what it will be"
jamm..and yeah at a mosque he might be nicer. i really dont know about all the stuff though because i've even had clyde and other players say hakeem just doesn't sign anymore hardly. and notice a lot of players stop after games to sign but hakeem is too good he thinks. now if you have his book or something which i bought he is a little nicer since he got money off it but still says its worth too much to sign ------------------ Shane "Save Our Rockets" "Life without basketball in Houston........without an arena that is what it will be" [This message has been edited by Rocket Fan (edited March 28, 2000).] [This message has been edited by Rocket Fan (edited March 28, 2000).]
In Islam you are not supposed to idolize anyone and by treasuring Hakeem's signature you are idolizing him. He does not want that to happen. He may not sign his autograph but he will talk to you if you ask. That is worth a lot more than a signature anyway. I still don't believe that he ever said his autograph was worth too much so that is why he wouldn't sign it. ------------------
I don't see any reason why Rocket Fan would be making it up. But I think we are all assuming a bit too much based on the information we have (and sources/context). How many of ya'll have been around pleasant people only to be cut-off by someone trying to get a quick exit from a church, mosque, synagogue, etc., parking lot. Still, none of us (I think) have walked in the Dream's shoes so we shouldn't be too judgmental, after all he is just a basketball player, he probably isn't a saint. sir..thanks i'm not saying he is nice or mean just saying my experience. as for the part about he doesn't want people to idolize his signature and the money part all i'm saying is he said straight up too many of his autographs are being sold and his autograph is worth a lot of money on the market so he wouldnt' sign. now i have had barkley laugh about the value of his signature and refuse to sign on nba balls even though i'm 17 and not going to go open my own sports store. just know this i have no reason to make this up because hakeem has always been one of my favorite players and it was tough for me but he isn't always what he seems to be on camera i have seen a few occasions where he has signed at private things where he is getting paid to sign so if he doesn't want people to idolize signature etc why can he have no problem with signing for money. i know he's a nice guy i'm just saying clyde doesn't sign some things like 8 by 10s and other players don't sign a few things but hakeem is only one i've actually had say he doesn't want to sign because fans might make money off him. like he's not making money off the fans for 16 years and especially next year ------------------ Shane "Save Our Rockets" "Life without basketball in Houston........without an arena that is what it will be" [This message has been edited by Rocket Fan (edited March 28, 2000).]
i'm just sayign he isn't the all might great guy compared to others. most players stop and sign after practice etc and games but hakeem barely ever does and many people at the compaq center have said he is the only guy who never stops unless he is just in some great mood. he mise as well sign a few autographs he needs to help the rockets in some way next year he sure won't earn the cash on the court. enough of this since no one belives me. he might not have meant it that way but on a few times he has said his autograph was worth too much ------------------ Shane "Save Our Rockets" "Life without basketball in Houston........without an arena that is what it will be"
I'm sorry, but anyone who bad-mouths athletes who don't sign autographs is a moron. Take joy in watching the game and the players performing, not a scrap of paper. ------------------
moron haha. i have no problem with them not signing i just think its overboard when they worry about autographs being sold. sir....agree with what you say and i'm not as big a autograph person as i was when i was in junior high. i think its ok if you don't have time to sign at the minute but dont' make up an excuse about how people might sell your autographs. for goodness sakes he told a 8 year old that and the kid was like all i want is for you to sign my ticket stub i'm not going to sell it. i just can't stand to see players say they dont' think autographs are good because they are sold etc but not have a problem signing for money. a card dealer i go to a lot was trying to get hakeem to have a autograph signing there and dream wanted $50,000 for 2 hours. he ended up having othella come but othella couldn't make it and sam mack showed up just to sign when he dind't have to and i dont' even think he was paid\ i'm just saying when a playe rlike dream will be making 16 mil next year he needs to at least sign because 5 pts a game on the court doesn't cut it by the way the thing about can't sign because will get swarmed is too but dream also said he couldn't sign one time because there were to many people there and there was 3 total ------------------ Shane "Save Our Rockets" "Life without basketball in Houston........without an arena that is what it will be" [This message has been edited by Rocket Fan (edited March 29, 2000).]
I can't say I am a big autograph guy or see myself trying to pursue them. But it is pretty lame in my book to say you won't sign because it would be worth too much money. Now if a player says I don't have time to sign at this moment because I will be swarmed if I sign your paper, or I do all my signings at a schedule time--come back then, that I can understand. But to overly concerned because a kid might make a few bucks is just weak in my book. It's fans in the seat and watching them on the tube that make these guys all their dough after all.
