...how unstoppable would he be? Speaking seriously for a moment, and it was interesting watching the beginning of this game and watching one particular instance where was hacked at the hand to no call, and then running back down the other end where he was whistled for no contact at all. It seems as if there is more of a handicap for the rest of the teams out there than anything when concerning him. I'm speaking of Yao specifically (Dwight could fall into this category as well, but not to the same degree) because of his excellent free throw percentage. Maybe I'm going out on a limb here, but it seems that if Yao was officiated fairly, and every foul that actually existed when players hack at him, and the phantom calls he often gets at the other end of the court were not called...he would be the most unstoppable player in the league. Is this the league's way of handicapping him or us for having him? This is something that I've wondered for quite some time, and it wasn't until watching it tonight that I felt like talking about it and seeing reactions. I know that this league and its officials are very biased towards perimeter (read: exciting) players, but I just feel bad for the guy that he gets taken out of games by phantom calls and other things he can't control because he simply has an enormous natural advantage over everyone else.
No no, stop this. No more blaming refs. Tracy 1/10, Ron 2/11. Refs did a great job, I mean you can't win with your 2 best players playing like that.
dont even cry about the officiating, stfu. Yao is a lil panzy soft center. he got muscled around by byunum
maybe if we attacked the basket more that wouldn't be the case. the lakers attacked the basket in the first half, by the time the 2nd half came around, they were getting open looks outside.
I do think that Yao doesn't get a lot of calls his way, but when you aren't finishing strong, you're less liable to get calls. The reason Shaq got so many calls is because he's getting all these And 1s. Yao takes a lot of jumpers and hook shots, essentially "finesse" shots, so it doesn't help. There's a lot of off the ball fouling that's obviously going on, but I mean, Yao's good enough to destroy any sort of single coverage. Too bad we're always getting doubled and no one on the team can actually punish them for it, at least not now.
you can't expect a ref to give a guy who refuses to dunk and plays fairly soft calls? this is the NBA, a man's league. if yao goes hard every time, he'll get his calls.
This game was officiated like a playoff game. The Lakers didn't get a lot of in-the-paint calls either. We stopped Kobe good for the first half. It wasn't an issue with officiating.
somebody correct me if im wrong but if youre in the post you cant have two hands in the back of an offensive player. Every replay i see with yao and bynum or whoever guards yao, consistently does this without any whistle blown..... pretty easy to call
