a friend of mine had an extra ticket and there wasn't anything good on tv, so i said what the heck. impressions: crowd-very enthusiastic; guess they don't know quality basketball team -sucks beyond belief; 20 wins may be optimistic. uniforms -worse in person than in pictures; designer should be shot!! in summary, not going back unless i can see the Rockets play.
The fans are enthusiastic b/c they have a team in OKC, finally. If fans weren't going to the games, they wouldn't have wanted to move here. A fan should be there for their team through the good times and the bad. OKC may not know anything about quality basketball, but I can promise you they were a big reason for the Hornets winning a lot of games at home when they were here. I've heard other people from basketball cities say the same thing about the Thunder, how they don't understand why people are so excited when the team blows... guess those people don't know what it's like to be a fan.
senor bueno- i didn't mean to belittle the Thunder but i have been a Rocket fan going back to San Diego ; with the Big "E" and Toby Kimball. the fact is ; we are NOT a major league city; the only reason the team is here is because Clay Bennett is from OKC. we have two college football teams ranked in the top ten and all i hear about is the Thunder!! P.S -they were playing the Wolves!
I watched most of their home game against the T-Wolves. It was entertaining because of the crowd reaction. There were times you would have thought it was game 7 of the Finals.
Hey atleast we get Desmond Mason back right? (I'm referring about the OSU community) Too bad they had to cut JL3.
jason , how do you think we'll do against Tech this week? everybody on the national scene seems to be picking us. darned if i know why!
I wouldnt consider charlotte, green bay, or buffalo as "major league cities" either, but the fact is, they have shown that they can support teams. OKC is no different in that they showed that they can support an NBA team (the hornets). While I would agree that the only reason we got the thunder is because of Bennett, I think OKC definitely has the capability to support one major professional sports franchise.
Just give it time, once the high wears off from stealing the Sonics then the team will fall into fan obscurity. EX. Memphis, Charlotte...
Oklahoma City is going to the most widely supported bad team ever! Ok, maybe not ever, but OKC will probably rank in the top 10 in attendance this year simply for having a basketball team. They were pretty rabid supporters of the Hornets after Katrina. Will probably be the same with the Thunder.
