"I was anticipating a switch between myself and Ron," said McGrady. "We inverted so that if he was going to come up, Ron was going to take him. But there was no screen set." "It was just a hell of a shot." http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/dailydime?page=dime-081107 --------------------------------------- So, McGrady's mistake was trying to anticipate too early. He should have reacted instead. On a play like that, don't risk anticipating incorrectly. Stick to your man and try to switch off once an actual screen is set (not an imagined one).
its the teams fault...we shoudnt even be in a close game against the blazers...nothing flowing offensively..the only way they could score was if TMAC holds the ball for 5 sec and creates for himself he's making the shots so the team tends to stand around watching coz they cant get anything to fall..we wouldnt even be close if TMAC didnt score the way he did..so i say its the teams fault.if TMAC and ron werent suppose to switch then the last play was TMAC's fault..but you gotta tip your hat off to roy he made a couple of big shots down the stretch...and damn were they lucky.i think the team has lost its swagger and confidence esp.YAO...i hope we bounce back soon and by that i mean tommorow night...i hope the rockets avenge the last 2 losses against the 2 LA teams. nice poll to see what the fans think about this game..but i hope in the locker room no ones blaming eachother...we can bounce back and the rockets will need us the fans to be behind their back...so lets just move on and GET RED
It's Rick Adelman's fault, Obviously. Sometimes I thought he was far from a top coach in the league and he would never lead us to peak. We say JVG can only play defense, so that's why Rick was here. But just watch our offense from the last 5 games. What the hell is that s*!t? No team work, no clear tactics, everything is just one on one show. We are talking about chemistry, we are talking about health. But chemistry needs time to solidify it and health needs god to bless it. The main reason of this loss, from what I saw in this game, is that we had no system at all. Don't tell me we get Artest so our system affected, Lakers added Bynum and they became even tougher. Don't tell me we are without Battier . Jazz are 4-0 now and still missing the best player on their team who is one of the best PG in the league. That is called the system. Rick has worked on it for one year and produced nothing. Rick Adelman must go.
Adelman has a pretty long track record of success. If you think it was just that he had talented teams, what about all the talented teams that never amounted to anything, e.g., the Nuggets the last few years, some of those Knicks teams with $100+ million payrolls, the Bulls last season in the weak East, etc... I'm not saying Adelman is the GCOAT, but I wouldn't lay this on him yet. I do think him, and his staff, are partially responsible for some of these defensive lapses but I wouldn't throw him under the bus this early. He isn't the defensive mastermind that is JVG, but he does other things better. It takes a while for players to adapt to his offensive style. When you have a hobbled T-Mac and slow-footed Yao as your cornerstones, it's not hard to see why it's so difficult to implement a motion-based offense. Right now, there is a collection of issues that we need to sort out before we do too much finger-pointing. He's been with this team as long as Aaron Brooks. He was dealt a hand and change takes time. I'd say he did well last season, everything considered. We are all frustrated as fans right now, but I still have confidence in Coach A.
i dont think you can really blame anybody for Roy hitting that shot. Heck, I surely didnt expect him to hit it when he caught the ball.. This game just shows how much we need some size in our frontcourt because we're just being murdered out there with 2nd-chance points. Defense never ends until you secure the possession of the ball.
I think the problem remains the same, Rox need a 7 foot back up center who can rebound (Deke is the temporary answer, not long term answer), and a not expensive pg who can penetrate and shoot (steve blake), and now the urgent solution is signing Deke, btw, why don't give Dorsey a chance?
yao has nothin left when his fade away jumpshot ****ed up. shouldve put him on the bench when hes cold. i bet landry+socla works better with Adelman's system.
tHEN WHO WAS GOING TO GUARD oUTLAW WHO WAS IN THE mIDRANGE AREA . lOOK AT THE REPLAY t-MAC DID NOT GURAD ANYONE ITS RIDICULOUS HERE IS CLEARLY LOSS ON THE PLAY. AND EVEN IF WHAT YOU SAY IS TRUE WHY WASN'T THERE SOME COMMUNICATIONM IN THE cHRONICLE HE CLAIMS HE ASSUMED rON WAS GOING TO SWITCH ON A SCREEN.bATTIER WOULD HAVE NEVER MADE THAT KIND OF MISTAKE
It may not have been Tmac's fault but he certainly did not play defense all game long and that last shot was a microcosim of his whole game. He was like that safety Gideon at Texas that dropped that sure interception which cost them the game against Tech....lots of factors but if he makes that play Texas wins. If Tmac guards Roy on that play...Houston wins. Same thing. DD
i think the last shot is a credit to Roy, and the lack of defense is to be blamed on T-Mac. to those of you that are saying his D was fine b/c he was playing to defend a 2, not a 3 - that's horsesh1t. there's one second left- you play defense that whole second. i like it when TMac gets steals (as he has done recently), but his track record over the last couple seasons is to let his man get an open look, and then run towards him when it's too late- and that's what happened last night. so many times last year, some player would make a shot, and all of us would be shouting at the tv, "who's man was that?" before realizing it was Tracy's. and him blaming the 'miscommunication' on Ron is bad form, once again- i hope he doesn't start doing that again, where every win belongs to him, and every mistake is someone else's fault. it was a tough shot, but had we had someone up in Roy's grill, maybe the 1-in-100 shot may have been 1-1000.
It's the BLAZERS' fault. THey made their shots and got the rebounds at a rate the Rockets ultimately could not overcome.
