Interesting. There are also kosher/pareve indications. I would think that the vast majority of natural vegetarian and vegan products would be suitable. Alcohol is rare for vegan products. regardless, actually reading the labels is always a good thing, despite what the front says.
I don't understand; who are they going to bring this petition to? I believe there is an organization that determines what products can carry a kosher symbol that is run by rabbis. Do Muslims have some kind of organization that can administer their own trademark? If so, why is a petition necessary? I don't think there are any legal or governmental issues to be resolved. They just need to convince companies with halal products that it's be profitable to put the icon on their packaging.
