So Shane practised by himself. Steven Francis was also at the training grounds and everyone is gearing up for the big battle.

I thought someone needed to post pics up now that Pryuen is gone

    Enjoy

awesome! you know that I am only doing this because I have my final exams on which means I need time to procrastinate

Since this is my my last university exam ever, I might not have the procrastination time in the future ;)

The translation of a report by Wanmen from Titan, in which Yao comments his time on the court

I know it might not be the right place for this passage and I also originally hoped to start a new thread, but failed because of my low degree. Someone competent may do it for me, so my translation will not go down the water, thank you!

Titan: how long do you think the running-in period (time to chemistry) will take?
Yao: around 10 games or so.

Titan: any concrete criteria for this, what performance can be marked as the end of the running-in period?
Yao: I do not expect we could defend at the same level as we did in JVG era, for after all; we now focus more on offence. You cannot do everything you do well, but at least, I hope we can control other teams and do as passionately as we do on offence end. You got keep moving if you want do well on defense end, otherwise, there will be leaks. As for offence, the previous experience tell us we will always have chance if we keep moving.

Titan: You guys focus more attention on offence, how about defense, because only defense will determine how far you will walk in playoff?
Yao: we have problems too on defense. Due to the height of my teammates, we are under great pressure in the paint. You know, I cannot always stand on the floor. Once I am on the bench, the height of other teams will be their great advantage in the paint. Moreover, sometimes I feel we are less intensive than before. The heritage from JVG era is seemingly diminishing. On defense side, we are less hungry and less move, but more leaks instead.

Titan: As the guy staying in the team for the longest time, what responsibility do you have to remind your teammates of keeping the heritage from JVG era?
Yao: I know the responsibility on my shoulders, which need to be done by communication. I will exchange ideas with my teammates and coach to find more appropriate ways. The other day, Hays and I talk with the assistant coach for defense after shooting practice, by which our defense will be improved. We know how important defense is, for after all we have played so many years with JVG.

Titan: You just mentioned height, to what extent do you think Motombo’s back will bring to Rockets?
Yao: no doubt, it will be helpful, defense and rebounds are his strong points, but you cannot expect his back will bring too much to Rockets if you think of his age. But, I do think we need a 7f guy in the paint, even if the function is no more than bluffing.

Titan: but how do you adjust your time on the court before you have a backup? Don’t you think it is too long during the past games?
Yao: My time on the court will be adjusted according to the teams we face, as well as the situation. Moreover, we have guys in recovery and my time does increase, but I do think my time shall be reduced sometimes. Too much time without break at the beginning will let me worn out afterwards and end with less efficiency. I think we may play as before: I play the first 6 minutes at the first quarter and have a break on the bench, then I play with guys from the bench at the beginning of the 2 quarter. At this time, the opponent will probably show a less powerful lineup and we will take advantage immediately.

Titan: If like this of 38, even 39 minutes per game, how long do you think you can persist ?
Yao: It is hard to say, but know it is kinda dangerous. I may fall down again after 40 to 50 games. Now new season just begins and recovery takes little time. You will fully recover after one night sleep, but things will be different after 30 to 35 games. The accumulated fatigue cannot be resolved just one sleep. Say, if I still play as long as I do now, ***** may happen. I got every possible break to take rest, because I am already a veteran. After today’s game, I told Jones I got rest tomorrow and will not join the training.

Titan: how much can Dorcy bring to you ?
Yao: he works hard and earnestly, is also eager to learn, but he got time to adopt himself to NBA from the college games. For any rookies, you have to convince the coach before standing on the court. In addition, I think Arderman may prefer skilled player, so Dorcy has to increase his skills on defense. Look at Hays, do not laugh, he is the kind of player with skill, his moves and prediction. Dorcy shall learn more from him.

Good translation erlang but i like to point out one thing, the only reason Yao has played extensively is because the height the last 3 teams we versed had, Memphis had Gasol, Darko who are both 7 fters, In Dallas they had Dirk, Dampier and Diop, With Thunder they had Sene and Wilcox and Petro so thats why Yao has played so much
