I was watching the Rockets killed the Bulls on Sunday, and heard Bill Worrell mention about a group called the Sunshine Kids. Can anyone from Houston inform me on what kind of organization are they. Thank You. ------------------
Chronicle article Feeling's mutual The Rockets hosted 37 Sunshine Kids at Sunday's game, with players and coaches visiting with the children diagnosed with cancer before the game. Players posed for photographs and signed autographs. But after completing his stint with the children, Rockets forward Carlos Rogers returned to the group and with tears in his eyes removed his shirt to collect the autographs of the children. "I know you wanted our autographs," Rogers said. "I want every one of you to sign this for me. This is one of the most special things to ever happen to Carlos Rogers. I want all of your autographs. Keep fighting. God will take care of you." The Sunshine Kids is a national, non-profit organization established in 1982 in Houston for children confronting cancer. "It really makes you change your perspective about things," Rockets coach Rudy Tomjanovich said. "We get caught up in our deal. At times, we'll get to complaining about our schedule. These kids, we'll see them, and Sunshine Kids is a great name for them because they have a positive attitude going through this really dramatic adversity." ------------------ NOTHING BUT .NET CLUTCHCITY.NET
from what i've heard of the group it seems like a great organization. i know scotty brooks was really huge into them and even cried when he was traded mainly cause he was so big into the sunshine kids. craig biggio is also involved with them and they have like a softball game with the astros before games a lot of the past years. they used to do it at dome before a game. seems like a great group of people and provides good oppurtunities for young kids with cancer and teens i guess too ------------------ Shane "Save Our Rockets" "Life without basketball in Houston........without an arena that is what it will be"
Carlos Rogers is a good man. If he gets traded this offseason (business is business), no matter who we get in his place, no matter how better a player his replacement (if any) may be, that person can never show Houston fans any more heart that Carlos Rogers has done during his stay. ------------------ I'm here to announce that on the undercard, I'm going to beat the hell out of Scottie Pippen.
