Yao has improved in every area...every year. Very skilled basketball player.

Howard is a physical specimen...and has more athletic ability...but as a shooter...nowhere near Yao.

Unless DW starts working on his game he will begin to deteriorate as a player from a skill perspective. His dunking ability will continue...but the skill level will diminish.

Okay, how's this:

1. Dwight Howard is great for All-Star games with highlight dunks and ferocious blocks. Same goes for a couple or three times a night. He's a great rebounder, and has a high scoring percentage. But he's never the go-to scorer in the pinch. If a game is tight, he isn't reliable to create or even clutch enough to shoot a simple 15 foot jumper. Even if he is given the ball during a tight game, if he's hack-attacked, he will fail to maintain a lead with his horrendous free-throw percentage.

2. It is your premature ejaculation for a player whose only had one good season (nothing too spectacular) last year in which his ppg increased 3 points during his short four year career, so far.

So, what's so great about him? Does he make his team better? No, just defensively. That's a minor contribution to a player that doesn't pass well and turns the ball over almost 3 or more times a game. Definitely more than Yao's "clumsy" hands career average. He is not a great player or even comparable to Yao's versatility. He hasn't made a name for himself yet as a reliable defender by any professional broadcaster or sports talkshow host other than an increadible leaper.

Also, he didn't dunk the ball in the dunk contest. He essentially f-ed up a simple dunk by being clumsy.

His leaping ability will fade with age, so then what's he left with?

Probably sitting next to Shawn Kemp in a bar in five years.

Just watch. He's not improving at all. When his jumping ability decrease and his strength decrease in couple of years, he'll be even worst than Shawn Kemp.

 

if you honestly think dwight howard is better than yao ming then you my friend, are r****ded. Dwight is young and athletic so yeah he'll be looking for dunks and wut not, but for yao to be so tall and still have a jumper, great free throw shooting, mediocre defense, he's a household name for sure.

dwights free-throw attempts are pointless if he's going to miss 75% of them. get serious.

 

not this again... dwight howard is a monster no doubt about that but i would still rather have yao than him. yao is more versatile and a smarter player. this is reminiscent of the bynum vs. yao argument. altho i have eaten my words. bynum is showing the promise that durvasa spoke of. but still NOT near yao and definitely not worth 58 million. i hope he turns into joe smith.

shawn kemp was a good shooter tho. so u had to pick ur poison inside or outside. remember the tandem of kemp and payton prevented the rox from winning the championship 2 years in a row. i say winning b/c i believe the sonics were the only team we couldnt beat during the 90s.

Outside of Howards physical game and his athleticism he has no outside shooting touch what so ever, don't get my wrong though he is working on baby hooks and what not but he's never going to be reliable in terms of having him shoot any crunch time free throws to save the game. One of Yao's biggest strengths is that if we need someone to pass to from out of bounds he's going to be able to catch it and shoot free throws to close out games (unlike most centers that are more than likely no where near as good a free throw shooter that Yao is).

Yao is working on being more dominant in the post but his game revolves around more finesse than actual bullying like Shaq's game was built around. Don't get me wrong Shaq's game was very efficient but if I had to choose between Yao and Howard I would most definitely choose Yao because he offers more than just dunks, rebounds and blocks. He can stretch the defense with the occasional 12ft jumper to keep the defense honest and you definitely can't say the same towards Howard. Honestly Mr. Pink I don't really like to call alot of people names but you're really asking for trouble when you bash Yao on a Rockets forum. I know you made this thread to generate animosity between other members but seriously? You can't honestly say Howard is the "best center in the NBA" just based on the fact that he dunks on nearly 30% of his shots.


Both centers have their strengths and weaknesses but I think I for one would choose Yao over Howard any day.
