I know they said they were going to crack down on it this year to the point of handing out fines and possible suspensions. But how exactly does it work?

I lol'd when the ref just shook a finger at Dirk after an obvious flop and then did nothing when he got "slammed" (tapped) on the mouth.

However he also got two calls off flops with that three pointer and another one when Scola and Yao were close to him under the basket and he fell down and yelled.

Man I hate that guy

It is mostly the European players that try to get away with flopping. I saw Scola last night clearly flop when him and Josh Howard were going for a loose ball. Of course no call was made, and it led to a wide open dunk. I know Scola is not European, but that is where he spent most of his professional career.

I didn't see that but if he did he needs to cut it out. I wish they would start handing out punishment to make people stop.

Dirks a good player but he was getting some major home town officiating.

The official league stance is that flopping is bad. The will stand their ground on this point until there is a hint of resistance, after which point they will give way, flying to the ground.

The league is against flopping unless one of their poster-boys does it.

I noiticed several fouls called for the Mavs when they drove to the basket. Our players gave way and still got called for the foul. This resulted in several 3 point opportunities. From several replays that I watched, I don't think we even touched those players. If the Refs are going to call this way, we need to hammer those guys and keep them from getting the easy basket.

as bad as Dirk is, i still think his the best compliment player to yao, with his size, speed and shooting ability.

They did say they would start fining people who made ridiculous flops, and impose more severe consequences for those who kept doing it on a consistent basis. But, who really knows how true they will be to their statements? Flopping and traveling calls do get on my nerves, but if you can't beat the call, then you might as well exploit it and use it to your advantage (*cough Ginobli and Dirk *cough).

Dirk clearly flopped on the 3 point shot where he got 3 FT's

I would have vented in this thread 2 years ago

now with Scola on my team, I actually enjoy him flopping and getting the calls, its quite amusing...

However, anyone from another team flopping is a No No

Stern was in the house during the Mavs game, so you would think the refs would have been brought their best effort to the game.

    Silly me.

Let me expound on my last post, just in case you can't read my mind.

I felt like Dirk had a blatant first quarter flop and the refs rewarded him by calling a foul on the Rockets. If the league really wanted to stop flopping, they need to enforce their policy.

I just went and googled NBA flopping rule and here is what I found:

KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) — The NBA will begin fining players guilty of flopping beginning next season.

Although the exact amount of fines has not been determined, the clubs have been informed that a new rule is on the way.

"We have not finalized what the system's going to be and certainly we will before the beginning of next season," NBA vice president of basketball operations Stu Jackson said Friday.

In-game observers at the arenas and video reviewers will report theatrical flops as part of postgame reports, according to ESPN.com, which first reported the plan to penalize floppers.

"Our objective is to get the most egregious flops, the ones where the player's just flat taking a dive," Jackson said.

Whether suspensions could be a part of the punishments is not clear. The league has an escalating scale of punishments for technical fouls and could use something similar for flops.

Players who flop in international basketball get a technical foul.

That sounds like it opens a whole can of worms on interpretation. Would simply falling down after taking a jumper when there is minimal contact with the defender be defined as taking a dive?? Would jumping away in the general direction you are being boxed out on a rebound you have no chance at be defined as taking a dive??

I expect a maximum of 3 fines to be issued all season long league wide with this kind of verbiage.

Our players flop too and scream as well (T-Mac), but it's not as bad as the Mavs...Dirk and Howard flop like crazy, plus Howard's a little p***y

So basically, what that says is that there is STILL no penalty for flopping?

Sigh. Great. The Jazz, Mavericks, and Ginobli will be up to their old tricks...

I can't stand it when players essentially cheat. They are cheapening the game and hurting the NBA's value. How does the league NOT do something about this? At least they could award technicals or something as a deterrent, especially where the contact is minor or non-existant.

there is a difference between being good and lucky. I mean just watch the game. We couldn't do ANYTHING. Ok maybe Scola played bad defense but Hayes, he got some unbelivable calls. We couldn't even look at him because it was already a foul.

But we, Rockets fans should be ok with those refs in Dallas. It happens every time.
