I live in Pearland, and while I like it, traffic is pretty awful. I guess going to Hobby, it wouldn't be so bad, but driving downtown in the morning takes for-ev-er.

Hey, quick question for y'all at Clutchfans -- has anyone here ever lived at the "Houston House Apartments"? I've looked at probably four dozen places, and I keep coming back to this one as my favorite -- it's right by the Toyota Center, great views, sort of unique . . . but the problem is it gets pretty bad reviews on the internet. I'm a little nervous going forward with a 12-month lease, with some of the problems I've read about on the internet (serious plumming issues, a/c not working, bugs, etc.), but it's my favorite place I've seen. Plus the price is right for me -- it comes out to be just about the best deal I can find.

I had a girlfriend that lived at Houston House years ago and I thought it was pretty alright. I don't remember any problems with A/C or plumbing back then, but this was like ten years ago. I have a friend that lives there now and I haven't heard any complaints from him.

One bonus: if the whole city loses power, HH is alright on account of underground power lines. They had power straight through Ike.

I also liked the parking garage and convenient store right next to the lobby.

Personally I prefer a place with a little more character. And I prefer a neighborhood to a high rise. (Houston House is downtown but it's in a pretty dead part of downtown.)

But as high rises go, HH is affordable, convenient and totally decent.

I liked Chicago and Pittsburgh too. I lived in Logan Square in Chicago. In Pittsburgh I lived at various times in Wilkensburg, The North Side, Regent Square, Bloomfield/Friendship, Shadyside and Lawrenceville - all in less than two cumulative years or so.
