I finally got around to checking it, but I declined the trade. I already have 2 good two 3B's (as a matter of fact, I'm trying to get rid of Rolen, if you're interested... ), and I'm not all that impressed with Astacio this year.
huh he pitched 10 shutout innings in spring play and his fastball has been clocked around 95..looks like he's primed for a good year.
Frank Thomas, Eric Chavez, Aramis Ramirez, and Roger Cedeno for Chipper Jones?!? Albion Warriors is looney for making this trade offer and I really don't understand why the Vatican City Cardinals declined this offer!?! Just thought I would pass this info along.....can you believe it? And to top it off, Ren and Mike told the Albion Warriors (Jason) that in their opinion he would be getting a good deal. Am I missing something here?
The Cardinals probably realized this trade would never be allowed.I don't like to protest but that would have been worthy.
I'm not sure this trade is as unreasonable game-wise as it would be in real-life. All those guys are bench players for Albion and, barring injuries, you don't really use your bench very much in this game. If he really wants Chipper Jones, then trading 4 bench players -- even if they are good -- (2 of them are 3rd basemen who are repetitive anyway) doesn't really hurt your team much at all. Seems like a depth-for-stars trade. It wouldn't make much sense in the real world where you need depth, but that's not really important in Sandbox.
Another thing to consider is that Vat.C would also have to drop 3 of his current players to make room..if you have some scrubs it's no big deal but he may not have players he wants to outright drop...anyway ..strange offer... Major .. it's a looong season and every team will suffer injuries just as you need depth in real life... it pays to have it in sandbox.
Major .. it's a looong season and every team will suffer injuries just as you need depth in real life... it pays to have it in sandbox. Oh, I agree that there's some need for depth. But, for example, Roger Cedeno was Albion's 6th outfielder, I think. You can always pick up a 6th outfielder from the waivers if you really need it. Depth in the real season is also used for things like pinch-hitting and resting players and all of that, which is unnecessary in Sandbox. Depth only comes into play for injuries here. If he suffers a couple of injuries, he could always try to trade Chipper Jones away again for that depth.
Chipper's FP/G last season was 3.6 Chavez's FP/G last season was 3.0 Thomas's FP/G last season when healthy (2000) was 4.0 Ramirez's FP/G last season was 2.8 Cedeno's FP/G last season was 2.9 These are all guys worthy of starting on someone's team. The Vatican City Cardinals could have easily accepted the deal and then traded off the players he didn't want/need. There isn't much of a distance between Chavez and Chipper and this will be more apparent once the season begins. Ramirez is a top-10 fantasy producer at 3B. If Thomas returns to his 2000 form, which is very possible, then that would make this trade more in favor of the Cardinals. Cedeno's potential to score runs and steal bases in New York's powerful lineup increases his value this season IMO. And like DARO said previously, this will be a long season and INJURIES always come into play. It is always smart to have good depth. In my opinion, having good depth is more important than having an increase of (0.6 FP/G) at my 3B spot.
A quick look at my roster reveals that I already have 3 people capable of playing third and Belliard will be eligable there relatively quickly. Does it, therefore, make sense for me to 'add depth' at third base? I also think that Cedeno is so much of a punk that making any assumptions about what he will do vs. what he is capeable of is a exercise if futility. I like Frank Thomas, but is he really that much of an upgrade from Mo Vaughn, if they're both healthy? 2 of the past three years Thomas' numbers have been below average. His deal followed the original deal that I proposed which was Mo Vaughn & Kelvim Escobar for Frank Thomas. I proposed this after examining his roster, and noticing that he had a need at closer as, since Danny Graves is going to be a starter this year he had only 1 closer/reliever (John Rocker) on his roster. He also had Thomas as one of 3 1st basemen. I suggested to him that it might be in his intrest to trade for a larger health risk for a backup in Vaughn in order to shore up his relief staff. He followed it up with his deal which, IMO, did nothing to address any roster holes on my team.
Thanks for your analysis. I was curious as to why you had declined the proposal. Understandable reasoning....
http://www.latimes.com/sports/printedition/la-000021278mar24.story?coll=la-headlines-pe-sports I wanted to wait until the rookies were available, but I had to grab Eric Gagne now before someone else got him. He has been lights-out this spring and he is firmly entrenched as LA's closer this season.
MAJOR: http://www.rototimes.com/baseball1/index.html Jose Vidro X-rays on Jose Vidro revealed what appeared to be a slight crack in his right shoulder blade, according to the Montreal Gazette. Vidro, who was hit by a pitch last Tuesday, underwent a CT scan on Thursday. The Expos weren't expecting any news before today.
Ok sorry it took so long to get back and defend my name, I told jason yes if he accepts the deal that he is only looking at .2 or .3 points to replace what he has lost, and gettting a 3b who is .6 points better and losing .2 or .3 points here and there for a guy who is going to be on the bench is no big deal. Frank Thomas, he is as accident prone as Mo Vaughn. For a guy who has Ken Griffey Jr., Barry Bonds, and ( not sure who his other outfielder is but i know he's better than Cedano) hehe, . And a guy who has 3 1B, The difference between the #3 best 3b and the #8 best 3b is prob .4 points, so giving 2 scrub 3b a accident pron 1b and a OF who all he can do is get is steals, ( when he is healthy ) , for a guy who is GOING to put up points BIG points, I would do it anyday of the week, IMO At first Jas told me that the guy was offering Mo Vaughn, LOL just curious as why he would try to trade Mo Vaughn while he's hurt. I dunno im out!!!!! OHH yeah 2 more days
Darn you JD...You nabbed Lieberthal I had my eye on him but didn't want to lose my w-priority yet....I couldn't believe he was still around.
I was just looking down the list and was very surprised to see him there....so I didn't waste any time picking him up since my only catcher was Pudge, who hasn't had the best record when it comes to staying healthy.
MIKE: I sent you an email yesterday. Do you check your email? Anyway, I was just letting you know that Tom Gordon is going to be out of action for 2-3 months with a torn muscle in his throwing shoulder. The Cubs acquired Alfonseca from Florida a couple of days ago to take Gordon's spot on the roster. You also still have Ankiel in your starting lineup and Nomo on the bench. You may want to perform a little switch-a-roo since Ankiel is in the minor leagues and is injured at this moment. Just a heads-up.
