Scola is efficient because he feeds off of the Allstars. If asked to create his own offense like Tracy, Yao, and Ron, he would be very inefficient. In fact almost everytime he was called upon to create for himself yesterday, I think he missed the shot. Most of his buckets came from loose balls, offensive rebounds, and nice feeds. Still, it takes a good player to take advantage of those opportunities. Scola is very good.
I see your point, but I disagree, I think Luis would be very efficient as the focal point, he is used to that. He was certainly efficient in the Olympics against NBA All stars...he was abusing them. Where Luis struggles IMHO, is that he is such a team guy, I think he sometimes tries too hard to take a back seat to the star players.... It is very rare to have a player like Luis that can lead, or follow and still be productive......we are VERY lucky to have him.... DD
Still I think about how lucky we were that we got him and didn't have to pay any larger cash for him. SCOLA is the BOMB!
The US team played small inside. In the NBA, you're going up against 6 10-7 foot guys that can move every single night. There are some matchups where Scola can hold his own on the block, but he's much better served as a guy who feeds off of star players.
Scola missed a few shots last night he normally makes. I wouldn't be surprised if he averages close to a double double by the end of the season.
He is tougher than T-Mac and Yao, he deserves more touches. I watched some of his FIBA games, he can produce 20+ in any game. Given more opportunities, he would be more efficient than he is.
Agreed. Actually, I think if he keeps play like that, his minutes will be reduced. In addition, his 13 rbs were not impressive. For most of them, if he didn't get them, his teammates would. I feel he didn't play for win last night. Instead, he played for numbers. Maybe he thought the rockets would win it easily.
scola needs more touches in the low post and more room to operate. he should get both as the backup center when yao is on the bench. adelman should realize this. but he's still too concerned with installing his offense (which at the end won't work out again, i'm afraid).
Man.... guys like Dwight Howard, Chris Bosh and Carmelo Anthony looked awfully short when they were playing against Scola in the Olympics. IMHO, the only guy who looked purty tall was Carlos Boozer. He looked like a raging 7 footer playing against Scola.
Yea we like what Scola brings to the table, but his focus playing for the Rockets is not the same as playing for his national team. He can play better. It's like we're seeing 2 different Scola's. We want the Scola that played in the Olympics.
Scola is too small to post up against the average NBA centers. But he is very good against PFs, much better than Landry. He needs to improve on the consistency of his midrange J though. Otherwise, he won't be able to be very effective playing the high post center.
Scola is a world class talent and could easily carry a much larger offensve load if asked to. He's such a team player that he's going to do whatever coach asks of him.
Come on man. You watched the olympics. The US won by playing small ball, and pressuring the ball on defense. They weren't defending teams the way an average NBA team would. Using Scola as a scoring option one on one on the low block should be one of our last options on offense. Scola is a good NBA player not because of his one on one skills. He is good because he understands team basketball and he is always in the right place at the right time.
I think Scola did not play to his best in this first game. I will need to see how he fare against Gasol of Lakers when we meet them to see deciding on how well he will be rated.
He is not a different Scola. He is just on a different team now. He adapts to the situation. Scola is a number one option in international play. In the NBA he is the ultimate role player. That's okay. Role players are vital to championship runs.
