Something really bothered me in tonight's game. Towards the end when the Rockets were pulling away T-Mac went after a ball going out of bounds and after play stopped he did this cutesy thing with a fan, getting in his face and whooping like he was saying "Woohoo, we're badasses!"

When I saw that I thought to myself "Dude, you just don't get it, do you?" The offense looked like crap tonight. In a lot of ways tonight's game was just terrible basketball. You only had to see Adelman's face to realize that. Yeah, I can understand that T-Mac was fired up but tonight's game was no reason to celebrate. It was a reason to go back to the locker room and watch tons of video and look at all the screw-ups. It's like T-Mac has bought into all the hype about the Rockets this year while ignoring what just happened on the court. It's the same old problem with overconfidence and wishful thinking that I think has plagued this team for years.

    True.

But I am sure T-Mac is the only guy thinking this way. Yao and Adelman, I'm sure, are completely pissed with the way we played today.

And can't T-Mac stop taking those lame 20-footers and start driving into the lane! That guy gets paid so much for just throwing up jump shots.. Michael Redd does that better. Even Landry has a good jump shot now.

    And I miss Shane badly.

mind you. I am a big T-Mac fan.

Regretfully, I missed the game, so I have a question about Mac. Did he play any differently than he did last season?

Rome wasn't built in a day. The Rockets will be one of the best teams in the league and have a chance to go all the way. No use in freaking out at this point.

Have you seen Eddie House play!? He's basically a smaller Luther Head with less defense. Anytime he's in the game opposing teams immediately pressure him in the backcourt. He's an even worse ballhandler and every bit the passer Head is.

Tmacs quote. "I'm actually this game was pretty close, so we wont get AHEAD of ourselves and think we've arrived". so i guess you can read tracy's mind better then him. you get lamer by the second with you're blind hate.

I was at the game but I also recorded it on my dvr - according to bill worrell on FSN, tmac did that bc he was frustrated at missing the shot and he was just interacting with the fans about it...kinda like "damn, i can't believe i missed that" .... I dont think it was a celebration act.

    1. Everybody hating on Rafer...wasn't it him who made the dagger 3 pointer in the closing moments of the game?? Fisher, Farmar, Rondo, and freaking Eddie House??? Are you serious...

    Alston- 7 pts, 7 Reb, 2 Ast, 0 TO
    Fisher- 10.5 pts, 3 Reb, 3 Ast, 1 TO
    Farmar- 12, 5, 5, 3
    House- 2,1,0,1.5
    Rondo- 14, 5, 6, 2

On this team Rafer should not be scoring, he should be running the offense and not turning it over which is what he did. Yes his shooting % should be higher but look at the numbers before you make ridiculous claims. And yes I realize we are 1 game in so the numbers aren't that perfect but ignoring them completely is ignorant.

    2. On the TMac thing with the fan, what actually happened was TMac made a good move and then missed an easy layup and I took his yelling at the fan as a AGGHHHH I CANT BELIEVE I MISSED THAT type thing.

    3. I agree our offense looked worse than I expected but our defense looked much better than I expected in this first game too. I have never seen so many bricks from two teams, there were tons of shots that either hit all backboard or nothing at all. Scola was killing me early on this his ridiculous two handed reverse shots and weak airballs but he came out with a double double so I guess its cool. Oh and just for the record...Barry has exactly 1 more point and 1 more rebound than Francis so far...just throwing that out there.

I admit I didn't get to see the game and have only seen highlights and read recaps and boxscores but from just skimming this thread you would think the Rox lost.

It was the first game of the season and no doubt things aren't as smooth as one would like but lets at least wait until the all star break before we start freaking out. Remember how shaky the Rox started last year only to pull off 23 wins in a row late in the season.

Are you talking about when he kind of screamed in the fans face jokingly because he was frustrated he missed that layup?

My thoughts after attending the game:

-I've seen enough terrible starts (Nov, Dec) to know it's a long season and there's no need to panic based on the first game of the year. It's not fun, but it's not damning.

-That said, it looked like half the team skipped training camp and Adelman was trying to wedge in one last preseason game. Yao looked sluggish, McGrady had nice energy in spurts but didn't look especially sharp. Alston was awful shooting and made a couple unbelievably bad decisions with his shot selection.

-Did we run more than 6 sets of the high post motion offense? Did we have any plan at all on half of our possessions? I went away disturbed that we still haven't found an offensive scheme after a full year with Adelman, despite good personnel (Yao, Scola) to run a high post centric game balanced with a low post (Yao, Artest) inside/outside attack.

-Artest struck me as trying to be sure to get the bulk of his points from within the offense rather than calling for the ball. That's admirable, but I think we'd benefit from his low post prowess more, especially on nights when we barely hit a third of our shots.

-Disturbingly low amount of our points came off of assists. Hopefully we gel and improve on this soon.

-The first couple of minutes were fantastic and a nice indicator of how nasty a bulldog defense we can employ when we want to. It was great seeing how the arena was pulling for Artest.

-Scola was absolutely fantastic. He was getting his shot whenever he wanted, and if he gets just 2 of those point blank misses to drop, he'd have 16 and 13. I started wondering during the game if we might actually be sitting on a big 4 rather than big 3.

-What was up with Adelman's rotation? Nothing jumps out at you in terms of who got minutes....but why did we see Artest+the back of the bench for extended stretches? Our offense came to an immediate halt each time and it was baffling. I get switching McGrady and Ron out for each other, but what was so wrong about leaving 2 or 3 starters in the game? With Scola playing so well, why only give him 25 minutes? Landry played only 3 minutes less than him and gave us 4 and 6 to his 12 and 13. I'll go ahead and say it - we don't need to play Hayes and Landry together. Putting Scola and Yao on the bench together should only happen if there is foul trouble.

-Congrats to the several months pregnant Sweet Suzie! Clutch is having a cub!

-I've said it before and will continue doing so: no one can be expected to shoot 90%, but when you start jacking up bad shot after bad shot....those are no different than turnovers. If you're taking a good shot and it doesn't go in, fine. But when you get lost under the basket and throw up an idiotic shot that has no chance (HEAD)...that's a pseudo-TO. Write Rafer down for 2-3 pseudo-TO. Hayes for 2.

-I was hurting bad after the draft because I wanted Darrell Arthur in the worst way, and we passed on him twice (passed, then traded him away). I was high on him because he looked like he could help us right out of the box and wasn't a smurf like our backup forwards. 11 and 15 in 27 minutes on 5-9 shooting? Geez was that bringing back the envy [Landry and Hayes combined for 4 (0-5 shooting) and 8 in 32 combined minutes]. Still, we went down a road that got us Artest, and I can't argue.

Let's get ourselves settled into a real gameplan and kick some butt this year!
