Getting it for PS3 tomorrow. I hate when they load good games up week after week in a row for release. LBP, Fallout and Resistance all out in a period of 10 days...

I'd think that the PC is probably the best bet (mods!), but I highly doubt the 360/PS3 versions will be subpar in any way.

I'll have to probably go 360, though, since I haven't put together a new PC yet.

Just FYI for PS3 owners, the PS3 version is getting slightly lower scores (apparently doesn't look as good and has no trophy support) and there seems to be a strange bug in that version:

Seems odd, but not a big deal. Will probably be patched fairly quickly.

In any case, after some so-so previews the game's reviews have been outstanding:
    IGN: 9.6
    1UP: A
    Eurogamer: 10/10

I'll be grabbing it after finishing Fable 2. Looking forward to it.

I always liked Oblivon for the console for the sheer fact that I could really kick back and just chill with a controller in hand..........

This is going to be the longest work day ever while I'm waiting to get home and dive into the game.

I did get it for the 360. I can use it on my LCD flat screen TV which is larger than my computer monitor. Also they said there weren't any mod plans for the time being which is why I would have gotten it for the computer.

If anyone does have it and is off today, or has time to play it, just know that you are very lucky.

Just started playing.... feels different from Interplay fallout. Not bad but just different (the whole 3D view and map is ...... different).

If they could've done it like Blizzards doing Diablo, might've made it more familiar.

Well, Interplay/Black Isle is history so it makes sense that Bethesda's attempt would feel different.

Blizzard is getting a ton of flack over Diablo 3's new art style.

I've been reading that the PS3 version is pretty badly riddled with bugs. PS3 buyers probably want to hold off on buying this game for now, or get it for 360/PC (which have been reporting as only having minor bugs).

It seems like every next gen game I've bought so far has had a bunch of bugs in it upon launch: NCAA 09 (borderline unplayable...traded it in for the PS2 version), GTA4 (online play bug upon release), and now I'm going to have to hold off on buying Fallout 3 because of bugs. The only game that has been good out of the box for me has been MGS4...Ridiculous.

    Indeed.....

This company has a history of having minor bugs everywhere. Especially for this type of games

I just can't imagine play a Diablo game from anything but an isometric view. I think Dungeon Siege probably had the best compromise between 3D and traditional style.

Ok, After a few hours of actual playing I must say I am impressed. There is definitely the scavanger/survivor feel you usually get when you start out fall out. The combat is actually pretty cool, and yes you do get to target some one's head/arm off with the targeting scheme.

I played a few hours last night.

It is different a little bit because of the way first person third person works. I have a tough time keeping it on 3rd person in this game.

The VATS system of combat is cool and fun. On thing that is different is that in the old fallout series you could target an item and then activate your skill to use it. Or you could just use your medical/Doctor skill. That seems to be different this time.

Character creation was very cool, and they use the SPECIAL system, which I like a lot. The perks are still there and are great.

There are plenty of homages to the old games in this one. The feel and tone of the game is preserved nicely from the first two as well.

As far as the game play itself there is a ton to do. In several hours of play last night, I have done little other than explore the wasteland around the vault, and some ruins of an old settlement. There was an abandoned school there that was really cool.

It does seem like it was easier to get the better weapons faster in this game than in the previous versions.

Sadly I won't be able to play the game again until the weekend because of Rockets games, work, and other plans.

So, to anyone who is playing this game and who has also played Oblivion... is it very different? I know they use the same engine...

In first person view, it pretty much looks like Oblivion w/ guns because of the engine.

BUT the stats, leveling up, V.A.T.S., that's all Fallout baby!

that's right, the perks, the combat, stats and level of gore is pure fallout.

The dialogue choices are also Fallout, though maybe just a tiny bit less inspired.

For instance in this fallout I can't stop and just click on my medical skill to activate it. I think it just makes the stimpaks heal more when I use them. The lockpick skill increases your chance to force a lock open, but normally it's a mini game that you have to play to unlock things. Computer hacking is a mini game as well, but you have to be at a certain level to even attempt to hack it.

The VATS system is where you can target different body parts of your enemy and shoot them. It can increase the chance for critical hits, and it slows the combat down.
