One day before the ROCKETS season starts so I just wanted to ask a random question Theoretically would you have Landry or Leon Powe from the celtics? They are strikingly similar in stats and style of play imo I was watching him tonight and what he brings to the table is explosiveness and the spark off the bench that landry does for us. Some of his dunks are just as nasty (if you were watching the game tonight there were some like the and 1 at the end on varejao). I'm not sure about his jump shot which landry has apparently improved on so any input on that? They are appx the same age, Powe actually being a few months younger but with another season of nba basketball under his belt and appx the same height (nba.com posts that powe is 6'8 and landry 6'9) and they are beasts on the boards. Landry avged 8 pts and 4.9 rebs ( 2.3 off reb) during his pretty much half season and Powe avged 8 pts and 4.1 rebs (1.7 off reb) during his season last year. They played 42 and 56 games respectively so you could compare their numbers slightly more closely. Landry is more expressive of his emotions compared to Powe or atleast from the minimum viewing of him that I am able to watch. They are both young and can the sky is the limit on the amount they can improve although imo I believe landry could be better(atleast I hope so!) After the celtics asked to trade powe for landry on nba 2k9 (REJECTED) I started to wonder and now want to know what you guys think.
Huh...kinda random, but looking through the stats, I've suddenly become mystified by the low number of blocks Landry averages.
He might have a nice vertical but his timing for blocks is not that great and besides the dude has small arms.
landry, powe, maxiell, millisap....its a new brand of small pfs who have good offensive skills with great roles as guys that bang you on defense and dunk on you on offense, i like em. I made this observation midway through last season and still describe powe to my friends as the celtics landry.
Honestly I think that Landry will be better than any of the players you guys listed barring any sort of injury. Landry is a really hard worker and his jumper this preseason has been freaking awesome. I watched Powe during the Finals and while I agree he acted much like an offensive sparkplug like Landry did, much of his offense came off dunks and putbacks and the like. Landry has a very polished offensive game and has a pretty strong defensive game as well-- but most importantly, the kid has the drive to be better. Looking at how quickly he's risen from second round mystery to this SUPERB explosive roleplayer that can haul boards, make clutch defensive plays, finish strong around the rim, and now can even stretch the defense? Give me Landry over those guys any day.
They are similar. Landry gives you that range. What it comes down to is Powe is more brutish and physical, Landry more explosive and athletic. But both are powerful and athletic. Landry has way more potential. Powe is gonna be in the league for 25yrs.
Landry is more talented....Powe is crap if he is not playing with their big 3...Landry would produce on any team. DD
Landry can be better because he can shoot. But Powe is a nasty dog and I'd take him on my team. Powe punishes opposing players and you can tell it's gets under their skin. Landy isn't soft by any means but Powe is more physical and provocative.
Powe comes off the bench. Most of the time, he isn't playing with their big 3. He's a very good offensive player. The Landry comparison is a good one. I think A_3PO is right ... Powe is more physically imposing around the basket.
he gets them when we need them the most like on deron williams in the 4th quarter, in the playoffs, with the game on the line im completely fine with that
Powe is more physical, while Landry is more gifted in basketball talent (nice ouside shot, decent inside game). Powe has no offense of game except for a 2 ft baby hook, put backs and dunks (he's very good at it). The question here is who's got more potential? No question, Landry does.
