Pi rocks! I saw it at River Oaks and it just blew my mind the first time. And I was all worried about seeing some unknown flick at River Oaks... You should be able to pick it up on DVD for $10, and I'd highly advise anyone with an open mind to give it a shot. B

well I don't have a list right now, mebbe later, but one thing stood out to me in this thread ... besides someone liking Wing Commander Gascon, Kevin Costner's The Postman WAS that bad. Long, bad, cheesy, and filled with crap actors. Gadzooks, I just remebered the main villian. hehehehehe. Ah well, to each their own I guess. But I dare you to watch it again. IN fact, I double dog dare you.
The original one (90s version) was damned good, but Mask of the Phantasm EASILY kicks the crap out of it. It's hardly a contest.
Here's another one . . . This is a kid's movie really, but it's MY FAVORITE of the Disney movies, but I've not met another person who's seen it: The Brave Little Toaster: I find it to be a wonderful story of loyalty, friendship, and determination. IMDB Summary: A group of dated appliances find themselves stranded in a summer home that their family had just sold decide to, a la The Incredible Journey, seek their young 8 year old "master". Children's film which on the surface is a frivolous fantasy, but with a dark subtext of abandonment, obsolescence, and loneliness. In some ways, I'm ashamed to admit it, but I love this movie. It's really a nice movie with a great story that I would think was an inspiration for "Toy Story", which took the whole experience to a more marketable and easily loved genre (Toys versus Appliances).
Thursday- I think I may be the only person alive who has seen this movie good Pulp Fiction knock off someone already said it but.... Office Space Mask of the Phantasm was an excellent movie as well-- True Lies -- the terminators' funniest Space Balls-- maybe not underrated but not well known either Dazed and Confused-- ah the good ol days (before i was born) Sweet Sweetback's baaaaaad ass song: Melvin Van Peebles at his best oh wait that's the worst movie ever made Everyone should own a copy of this movie to get rid of unwanted house guests. No one can watch this movie twice... guarenteed SANDLOT god i love that movie!!!
Suspiria - Truly one of the greatest horror films of all time. Crash - Great call Elvis, a should be classic waived off by most for its extreme boundaries, or lack there of. Videodrome - Another spectacular Cronenberg, for which I'm not even sure how to describe. Near Dark - Not a finer vampire film exists. Akira - Often dismissed by the fact that its an animation, but in all realms a true epic on any level. Glengarry Glen Ross - The character, the setting, the plot, all pulled together by a phenomenal script and fortified with unparalleled talent. Why this isn't mentioned among the apex of cinema is beyond me. Blood Simple - All Coen, all the time. Ed Wood - Such an unusual similarity between an inside joke. Only a few will understand, but those that do are pleased to no avail. Manhunter - Anthony Hopkins is all well and good, but I like my Lektors performed by Brian Cox. The Royal Tenenbaums - I assume everyone who left the theater last year took their amnesia pills. As this instant classic deserved to garner at least some gossip. Scotland, Pa - Granted this may be in a dreadfully miniscule release, but for all the "buzz" around such indies like In the Bedroom and Monsters Ball, this clears the floor unnoticed.
I would amend this to say that it is the finest modern vampire film (the original Dracula and Nosferatu are just as good if not better). But it definitely has been underrated by movie crits.
I absolutely agree with you 100%, Elvis. Lone Star is a fantastic movie. If you haven't seen it, rent it.
He Got Game Best fictional basketball movie made in the last decade. The Way of the Gun "Do you believe in Karma." "No, Karma is Justice without the satisfaction. And I don't believe in Justice."
Marnie - revolutionary in its time and panned by the critics, this movie is now recognized as one of Hitchcok's unappreciated gems. It may be his last good movie. Believe it or not - I think Tippi Hedren gives a great performance in this one. Barry Lyndon - yes it is by Kubrick and it is a little long, but it really is a fascinating movie, but you have to give it a chance...not like any of Stanley's other movies. Midnight Run - Robert DeNiro is absolutely hilarious and Charles Grodin is not bad in this comedy-action-adventure. Swingers - the MOVIE to describe how frustrating it can be to get over a relationship. There are probably more, but those are the only ones that come to mind. They also may not be popular choices, but they are my choices, nonetheless.
hands down...DETROIT ROCK CITY...great f**king movie...i watched it last night and DAMN, that's a well put together film...
Freddie Got Fingered - If you like the Tom Green show, you will like this, I suggest the DVD so you get the PG version and the hilarious commentary by Tom and Harland Williams. Star Wars Ep. I - Listen to the commentary audio track on the DVD to truly get an appreciation of the incredible acheivements in special effects made in this film. In many cases, only an actor in the scene is real, but the whole scene looks like you are right there. Even Jar Jar is not as bad as people want to make him out to be. Sure the way his bumbling results in victory time and again is crap, but that is mostly in th climax, in the rest of the movie he is just a bit of comic relief. Dogma and Chasin Amy - So many people want to bash these two because they weren't Clerks or Mallrats. The fact is that they aren't, but they are still funny in their own right. Dogma was a hillarious look at relegion and all of its foibles. Chasing Amy was worth it just for the character of Hooper-X. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back - This one was as good as Clerks and Mallrats. Especially if they had left it with the NC-17 rating it originally earned. Plus, it had Eliza Dushku in it, what more can you ask for. Very self-depricating movie.
Ones that have been mentioned: Rounders Chasing Amy Office Space Half Baked Rushmore New ones to metion Go Better Off Dead Fools Rush In (hell, i put this up there with Jerry Maguire) The Game Donnie Darko
