Damn, I may be out of town next week so I may not make the Crawl. When I come back though, I'll probably head on out to Etro based on the recommendations here and people have told me Volcano is good. Now I just need to get some people together and not go alone like a loser.
Does anyone frequent The Mink in Midtown? Every time I walked through the lounge area for a music show, they were playing some good music in the bar/lounge area. Sometimes Hot Chip, Royksopp, Junior Boys etc...
Does the Blue Bird Drive-in still exist on Old Galveston Road? Used to be a big Bandido hangout back in the day. Never a dull moment.
Geez, references like this might as well read like Rocking Chair Lounge and Club Pacemaker... eh, oh well. I'll just shake it off and head to Prague or Tonic, and....*sigh* Where's the time go? I'm not ready for family and marriage yet, whats an old man supposed to do then?
You forgot T-Town and Coco Loco! Nowadays, I just go to bars in Midtown. Clubs aren't my thing anymore. I remember being served by that bartender with dreadlocks at Drink Houston. I stopped going there a long time ago. I don't fit in because my eyebrows are natural.
I will go to bat for the Poison Girl...it might reek of hipsters and music snobs, but it's laid-back and has great drink prices. Boondocks not so much...
pearl bar became my favorite spot in town up until about 3 or 4 months ago... now it's become decidedly more trendy/douchey. but they used to have a DJ come out during happy hour outside and he would spin all sorts of old school funk and r&b... that kicked royal ass. i still go every once in awhile but i really dont enjoy myself there anymore. onion creek is a great place to drink some brews on the patio, lizzards is always fun, volcanos, kays, and marquis II are solid, komodos, christians tailgate, kobains is decent, front porch/porch swing are alright, mugsy's, kinnealys... i dont do much of trendy spots unless absolutely necessary.
Yeah, me too. Except I am single. So it is now. Not a fan of Lizzards though. You know when you go somewhere and you know everybody, but you don't like any of them. That's Lizzards every time. It's a frickin' Kinkaid reunion every time I am in there. I end up getting stuck talking to someone that I haven't seen in five years and didn't miss during those five years. Small talk is a creation of the Devil. The exact opposite is true of other bars. Armadillo Palace on a Thursday night is a place where I know everyone and I actually want to see the people I haven't seen in a long time. Weird how that works out.
Yup, that's Lizzards for you. Haven't been there in a few years, though. Lizzards was great during the holidays, though, b/c of all the girls home from college...easy
I wonder if how you feel when you walk in to Lizzards is how everyone else feels when you walk into the Armadillo?
haha!! blue planet was my first bar/club i ever went to after HS!! that's pretty embarrassing to say! it was 18 and up and my brother took us with our friends.
exact opposite for me... not to say i'm a huge lizzards fan (i didn't grow up going to kinkaid or st. johns), but having a good time there with a bunch of friends has never been a problem. and that place is a bonafide skanktuary during holidays. i've never enjoyed myself at the palace, otoh.... not sure why. too "aggie" for me i suppose. oddly enough my friends that absolutely love going there are almost all aggies.
Anyone know a good place in the Galleria area to watch the Rockets game? I usually go to Kentucky Club on Fountainview, but their TVs are too small. Fox Sports Grill is good, but kind of pricey. Anyone ever been to Jake's Philly Steaks on Chimney Rock to watch games?
Yes. Not a great place to watch games; at least not a few years ago. I don't recall a big screen in the place. But they do have the BEST cheesesteaks in town. Ask them to put cheese whiz on it.
