Longtime Ozzy Osbourne drummer Randy Castillo died yesterday from cancer. He was 51. I don't have a link or anything. He seemed like a real nice guy.

No, that was Rod Morgenstein - formerly of the Dixie Dregs and the Steve Morse Band. He currently plays on numerous projects including Platypus with Ty Tabor (guitar - King's X), John Myung (bass - Dream Theater) and Derek Sherinian (keyboards - Dream Theater).

Really sorry to hear about Castillo. How did it happen?

Castillo suffered a ruptured stomach ulcer after completing the most recent Motley Crue album, 2000's New Tattoo, and underwent emergency surgery, which knocked him off most of the band's tour that year (Hole drummer Samantha Maloney filled in for him).

Two months after the operation, Castillo learned he had cancer and began an intensive radiation-and-chemotherapy program. In messages to his fans since then, Castillo sounded upbeat and gave no indication that anything was seriously wrong.
Kinda odd that he posted this rather recently himself: "There is no recurrence of cancer anywhere in my body so all I have is four more chemo sessions left and I'm done except for follow-up & monitoring which is no big deal. I'm a f--kin' cancer survivor! I got a lot a lost time to make up for."

I have always liked Randy's playing. Even way back on the Lita Ford album and Ozzy's Ultimate Sin. RIP Randy-you will be missed.
