Was it the simple arthroscopic, the one Kobe had last summer and the one Branden Roy had? I mean he makes it seem like he's coming back from microfracture surgery.
I've been wondering as well. It seems crazy to me that he's having this much difficulty getting back on the court at 100%. I thought the knee surgery was just a standard one. Didn't Andre Johnson have two of these in this past offseason?
You guys have to remember it ISN'T just the surgery that is causing him so much pain. Last year he had a bone bruise in his knee, similar to the one that took out Marvin Harrison all of last year in the NFL season. He reinjured that more than once, and had to play a few months with those loose bodies and such in the knee. The arthroscopic surgery took out those loose bodies, but it is still ailing. Regular arthroscopic surgery in which only the loose bodies are a problem will have you fully healed in about 3 weeks...this injury is a lot deeper. The thing to remember is that this is T-Mac's first major knee injury in his career, and he couldn't play much in the offseason. Right now, more than anything, it is about getting strength back in that leg and coniditioning rather than feeling pain.
the guy is a freak of nature and he's had a lot of wear and tear on his joints, especially his knees... he's been playing longer than any of these other athletes since mentioned above and I think he'll come around, but we just need to be understanding a patient. Would you rather he just retire?
He'll be fine once he hits a few shots in a row. Of course, he'll be hurting again after missing the next few but it's all good. I thought we had all seen the Tmac "I limp when my jumper isn't falling" routine.
Hasn't Kobe played more than Tmac? The problem is not his body, but his head/heart.....always has been. I am looking forward to him stepping back into a super support role.....because as a leader, he sucks. DD
Yeah 12 in a row after Yao went down sucks balls! It's time for V-span to come back and lead this team int...oops not happening.
Mac is one of those people that have tremendous talent they tend to be spoiled because the game comes easy to them. The issue is when things get tough like in the 4th quarter when champions are made Mac is gased and ready for a shower. I've watched him play all season and into the playoffs and his conditioning has never been great. I know people will say he's had to carry the team, but I don't buy it anymore. Mac is fat and out of shape and that's all. He looked the same way last summer it looks like his offseason routine does not involve playing basketball or doing much else even when he's not injured. Flame on!
hahaha... it doesn't look like he did much this past off season (possibly due to knee and shoulder surgery ), but last year he came in ready to play and looked great right from the start. Maybe this season he'll come around towards the second half of the season!? DD I don't know how you can say that his limiting factor isn't his body... He may have some mental issues from constantly losing in the first round (LOL), but I'd still say the number one limiting factor of his success is injury.
I know he maybe lazy and has a weak phsyche, but you can't dismiss his injuries. Why do people keep comparing him to Kobe?! I just don't get it. People's bodies age differently and some are more sustainable to injuries than others. Also think about the frame of this man. He's almost 6'9". A guy that height isn't suppose to move like he used to. He is a freak of nature. His body has clearly broken down over the last 4 years.
His body certainly is a factor, but others have played through injuries he has sat for.... Not all injuries, but some......and personally he looks like he basically took the summer off...and is blaming the minor surgery he had as an excuse. Tmac is a great talent, and a wonderful player, what he is not though...is any kind of leader.... I think he has been coddled all his playing career, and it will be good for him to take on a secondary role as his career goes forward. I am not saying I don't like the guy, I am just saying that I ain't drinking his milkshake either....and realize he has limitations....which are primarily in his head. DD
I agree, his body has been a problem, but how much of that is due to him not getting his core in shape? I have no data, but in appearances, it seems that Kobe works a LOT harder than Tmac at everything. DD
Maybe I'm remembering the Mac of two years ago instead of a year ago. The photos of him shows a guy with a large gut. It it well know that guys like Shaq eat Bar-B-Que in the offseason and become very tall and lazy coach potatoes. Mac fits that mold to a T. While some guys are playing in summer league and pick up games Mac is shoving a Big Mac in his mouth twice a day and watching soap operas.
It's going to be messed up to see McGrady 2-3 years after he retires and he is walking around at 270lb+ If the guy can let himself go that much in just a few months imagine what he will do in 2-3 years AND knowing he doesn't have to worry about getting back in shape to play a season of basketball. And save the "he can't rehab so he can't help but gain weight" BS. It is very easy to stay trim even if you can't run or even walk. It's called restricting your calories.
