I think the title should be more like: #1 - Travis County Cell Block 4 vs. #6 That other Texas school Tech 48 Texas 42 Texas hasn't played anybody on the road this year and Texas doesn't have anybody that can hang with Crabtree.
Damn, you know you are having a good season when 391 yards, two TD's (plus another one rushing), all against the #6 team in the country, can be considered "pretty mortal."
I agree with about everything you said cat. I don't know, I was too drunk to remember the Missouri-Texas game. I thought Texas offense last week was very predictable, and as Oklahoma State realized if you showed blitz, Colt will throw a quick screen over, it will be up to the Tech defenders to jam the wr's and watch for it. Whoever will get the most pressure on the opposing QB will win. Since I don't see much defense this game. If Texas finds a running game we don't stand much of a chance. Good thing is Texas running game isn't much better than ours.
Yeah, with regards to Missouri, it all depends on how you look at it. Starting around the beginning of the second quarter, Mizzou found the seams and moved the ball consistently and put up points. (Actually, they were doing that on a first quarter drive too, before an absurd penalty wiped it away.) But like I said, I'm still not sure if it was us settling down and matching the intensity, or if it was the Texas D taking their foot off the gas a little bit. On the other side of the ball, I will say that Texas played out of their minds against us, and fell back to earth a bit against Oklahoma State. I agree with you that the key is to play press coverage and jam the Texas receivers -- if you play zone, Colt within 10-15 yards of the line is just deadly. He'll find anyone and everyone. But when Oklahoma State forced him to go deep, he fluttered a couple and got picked off -- I think that's what Tech needs to have a good chance. EDIT: The more I think about it, the more it makes sense as to what makes Texas so surprisingly tough this season. When you play an offense of overall elite athletes like a UT or OU, your first instinct is to prevent the big play. Most offenses like those thrive on going downfield with the big play, a la Bradford and OU, and Missouri came out with a very similar defensive scheme to what they had in the two games against OU last year. Zone coverage, all-out blitzes to prevent routes from developing, etc. The problem with Texas is that they're not really a home-run hitting team, and Colt's not really a gunslinger type quarterback. They're a team of Brandon Stokleys and Wes Welkers and underneath, slot receivers who thrive on taking every yard they can. And Colt's a QB who doesn't necessarily look for what gives him the best chance to get a 40 yard gain, but instead for what option is most open and gives him the best chance to move the chains. It's a different scheme from a typical UT team, but Missouri didn't adapt to it at all. Wonder if Tech will have more luck...
Think about this for a minute: Do you honestly believe Tech's offense is better than OU's? Before you answer, take a step back and at least try to think objectively. I say this because (IMO) if you polled unaffiliated people that have seen both teams, it wouldn't even be close. Besides Crabtree (of course), OU's athleticism on offense leaves Tech in the dust. I'm not criticizing you for being a homer, just wanted to challenge you on this point.
I will repeat my claim that I think Texas Tech has the best offense in the country. I don't think a big 12 defense can stop it or slow it down for that matter. I don't know if they have a better line, time will tell. Like many said we have not been tested, but teams have tried. Its not just about Crabtree, our wide receivers catch what is thrown to them hardly any drops. Eric Morris is small and quick, Edward Britton is strong and has reliable hands, Detron Lewis another very good wr. Barron Batch a very underrated Rb, averages 7.5 ypg. I don't think Harrell is as good as Bradford, or McCoy. But yes it might be me sounding like a homer but I do believe we have a better offense than Oklahoma's.
Jimmy Johnson picked Texas to run the table. That hillbilly knows a thing or two about college football. ...and Texas ain't blitzing unless we have three down lineman.
That hillbilly used to be our coach back in the 70's........ but he didn't achieve anything there, but somehow he managed to find success in the NFL.
Tech only beat Nebraska by 6 and the only Big 12 South team they've faced so far is A&M. I'll never look past the Red Raiders at home, but I wouldn't be surprised if Texas is the first of three teams to beat them in a row.
We did play pathetic that game, no way to cover that game up. We got outcoached, and their offense kept chewing up the clock, they had they ball what I believe was 40 minutes to our 20. I am not even going to say we desserved to win that one but we did old Tech teams would have lost that game, but we got to win and kept any hope we have on winning the big 12 south. As for only playing one big 12 south team that being A&M you can't fault us for that. The rest of the schedule only includes big 12 south teams. It is very possible that we could lose 3 in a row, but it is also possible that we can win 2 of the 3. I have no faith this team will go undefeated I am expecting to lose in Norman. If Texas beats us this week, they will desserve to be in the national championship whether they lose once or not which they probably wont.
Sorry to say it, but Tech is OVERRATED and they will be exposed this weekend. Yes, they have been scoring like crazy, but who have they really played exactly? And if A&M can score on these guys, UT and Colt are going to have a field day. HOOK EM!
I said this in another thread. Tech's typical season is to start strong and finish slow because they always seem to have their tough conference games later on. 6-0 turns into 7-4, etc. They might be better this year than normal though.
Fan of UT, but don't underestimate Tech. Everyone saying Tech is overrated is underrating them. Can McCoy keep up with Tech's scoring? I don't know. The game is in Lubbock, too. Texas: 42 Tech: 45 Tech scores on the last drive of the game. Crabtree on a fade in the endzone. Big penalty gives Tech great field position towards the end.
I dont want to estimate them either, but is their offense really better than OU and OSU? I also dont think its any stretch to say that Tech's D is no where even close to OU or OSU. Unless, Tech can drop 40 or 50 pts on UT, I dont see them winning the game......
