I wish Verizon would just announce a release date for the Blackberry Storm already. I am in need of a new phone in the worst way, my contract is up, and am waiting... I seriously can't wait forever, my phone OS has gotten so bad it won't work for more than 30 minutes if you are actually trying to use it to talk on (as opposed to emails) or I am roaming. Lesson to all - don't get your phone wet or moist!
When I pre-ordered, a CSR said that the $25 or the $35 data package was not needed and that you could cancel it when the phone was delivered. However, I was told by 2 separate CSR today that the phone will not work without the G1 data package. I am not sure why - just passing on the info.
The Pearl is a smaller phone. The keyboard is not a full keyboard, but a keyboard that has two letters on each key. The order of the letters however mimic a computer keyboard. Screen size is another big factor. This plays into surfing on the web or reading your emails. Compare the Pearl to the Curve and you get a bigger screen, a full keyboard, plus WiFi among other goodies.
A friend of mine has the G1. Take a look at the UNLOCKING screen in the first SIX seconds in this YouTurd video: OK. Here's the deal: I saw my friend of mine unlock his screen. I asked him "WTH did you just do?" and he answered "I unlocked my screen." I asked him to do it again. He did. He also locked it. When he was done, I asked him for the phone. He handed it to me. I said to him: "I bet you I can unlock your phone if you lock it. It looks easy to try." "No Way", he said. "Want to try it, or not?" I asked. "Sure, let's see", he said. In those few seconds I had it, and asked him the questions, I did something that allowed me to HACK the encoded entry. I gave it back to him. I said: "I will look away. You can unlock your phone, then give it to me." He agreed. He unlocked it, then I asked him to lock it fast, (the red "hang up" button locks it quickly) then I said: "watch this". While I stared at him, I unlocked his phone in front of his eyes. "WTF. It's that easy?!?!" "YES." How did I do it?
Why wouldn't you want the data package? Well, if you want to take full advantage of all the capabilities of the phone, you'd get the 3G package. Theres a $25 plan also.
Because its 35 dollars a month, I get wifi almost everywhere I use my phone, I dont see the need for 3g...
I heard it is supposed to hit stores on the 17 of November. I hope its true cause I wanna get it too! Storm ftw.
Bad points...its on the Tmobile. I would wait to see what other new phone uses the Google OS. This one just doesn't seem good enough to just go out and get or get tied down to a contract for. I'm SURE they will have something better really soon.
Picked one up today. Liked it so far. The hardware is not as slick as IPhone. The lack of muti-touch screen was a big disappointment. But it's open source which means more developers. And HTC is not as anal about limiting the hardware as Apple, so you can add more memory by microSD card, and you can change the battery.
My cousin has it, and I got my hands on the phone. I'm actually a fan of the hardware's material. The hardware design is a different story...that thing looks like it's 5 years old. I thought the material was going to feel like a cheap plastic case. But it feels a lot like matte. But it didn't attract fingerprints like say the black macbook. As far as the phone's capabilities, I like where it's going. But right now, it doesn't warrant a purchase from me. Hopefully they add more multitouch. The touch screen technology seems a bit outdated. The screen resolution was surprisingly clear. I'm curious to see how it looks next to an iphone. We'll see... For now, I'll hold off until the G2, or at least until they put the OS on a much better phone.
This phone looks older than the iphone and the iphone came out nearly two years ago. Goes to show how far the iphone is ahead of other phones. If i could get the iphone or this phone with the same company, Id choose the iphone 10 times out of 10
If you get rid of the 3g service, make sure to check on 2g networks only on your g1 in order to continue to receive and send calls properly.
