Do you know him? He's that dude that ALWAYS has a better story than you, has done more than you and makes more money than you with no real evidence. I'm losing patience with him. I've always tried to keep it humble and not talk a lot about things that are happening in my career, it's a good time right now but I distribute information judiciously because I try to be sensitive to the next man's journey. I won't waste bandwidth with more frustration, but I just wish some people would give credit for achieving a goal without using your story as a launching pad to talk about themselves.

Yeah that kinda guy is frustrating to be around. There's actually a GIRL at my job exactly like this. Absolutely sickeningly predictable when someone brings up something they done before, without FAIL she'll raise up in her seat, eyes widening, deep breath like she's got the most AMAZING story that we just HAVE to hear... (so important that she must take a break from her work to tell it....) and interject with something she was similarly involved in before that is always crazier or better than the 1st person's story. We've even tricked her by making up some fake crappy story about doing some cow tipping or something, and she even followed that up with some tale from the ol' barnyard what her and her friends used to do...terrible.
Like guys that claim they never sit down to pee.. not because it is girly, no... because if they did their "pipe" would be in the water. What I don't get is when EVEN IF you're telling a bad news story, their story is a worse one. Or the guy that, because you view something differently than him, he is automatically correct and/or more informed or educated than you... without a way to prove any of it. In older days, you'd punch 'em. Nowadays, you wisely choose to avoid jail.
What about the opposite of the one upper? Like the negative down upper? When someone says they've been through something rough, I like to say I've been through something worse to make them feel better. Regardless if it's true or not.
Oh quit whining and acheive more. Why, I remember a time when I hated the one upper more than you AB....and we used to talk about it all the time basking in our hot tub overlooking the lake from our 4000 sq foot lake house with a media room and downstairs shuffleboard table with bar. Yep, it was quite the thing talking about how much we disliked the one-upper, all the while sipping quality wine from Napa and top notch beer imported from Germany. [/sarcasm] DD
