I think it depends on the TV equipment located in the other teams' arenas. It's üprobably not available everywhere I guess.
I've wondered the same thing. Even if the game isn't in HD, they could at least broadcast the standard def. broadcast on the HD channel so it is more clear. That game last night looked like poop. I just bought a 50" plasma, and standard def looks horrible after watching the HD programming.
Don't go through the box. Put a coaxial cable directly into your TV. When you watch Rockets SD switch the input to the cable direct feed. The improvement is significant.
Thanks for the idea. Unfortunately I use DirecTV, so the signal has to come through the box (i think). I've sworn off comcast/time warner for the rest of my life. They will never get another penny out of me as long as I'm alive enough to tell them to eat it.
i think i read it cost about 20-30% more to produce a game in HD. at least at home its easier since all the equipment is there and its easier since there wouldnt be as many costs. Now FSN houston could broadcast in HD a road game if it was visiting a team like the wovles who also use a FSN station for legal reasons and use the same feed. but against other teams who have contracts with other cable companies they cant do the same. and it would not be very cost effective to bring all the hd cameras and equipment needed. last night game was in HD for people watching via the free league pass on dish network it was just the kings feed though
That sounds interesting. Do you need two cable sources coming from the wall? Or do you have to switch one cable back and forth everytime?
Two cable sources is the easiest way. You split the cable right after it comes out of the wall into 2 separate cables, one going to your box, the other directly to your TV. Some boxes also let you go from the box back into the TV but usually you have to unplug your HDMI or component cables.
Hmmm.....if all arenas don't have HD broadcasting, then how does ESPN and TNT manage to go into those same arenas and broadcast in HD? I call BS....I think they all have it and take the cheap way out.. DD
It's my guess that ESPN and TNT take their own equipment into the arenas. I would imagine that FS Houston either A: uses equipment already there or B: takes the cheaper equipment (not HD compatible) to away arenas.
Yes. My bro-in-law is a cameraman for ESPN. Every location he goes to do has their own truck with their own equipment. They do use the arena's pre-wired video feeds, but the cameras and truck equipment belong to the TV crew, not the arena.
