I've thought about that concept a number of times. Specifically, I was thinking we should implement the first co-head coaching job in NBA history (I don't believe it's happened before). I don't think it would be right for JVG to be an assistant coach. The problem is we would never do it just like Van Gundy would never give up his lucrative 5-year contract with ESPN.
An interesting thought, although its hard to see either one of them being fine with not having total control, especially with such divergent philosophies. But your approach is more like a football offensive & defensive coordinator set up which is a level of specialization which could be totally feasible in the near future. When Morey brings this in to play, we can take full credit. The point is this though: the team had JVG's defensive DNA all over it last year and it was the foundation that we built our streak on. This year, not so much. The idea of hiring RA was to add his offensive schemes to the best defensive team in the league, not let it all slide the year after JVG goes. The thing that worries me is RA's laissez-faire "we'll cover that next week in practice" attitude. We should have never lost the defensive principles in the first place, particularly when we added Artest.
I think we need to judge the Rockets based on the second half. That was when our team really started coming together. McGrady looked much much better in the second half, and our defense got much much better as well. We held the kings to just 37 points in the second half, whiles we scored 57 . If Rick can fully utilize our offense without destroying our defense, then we are one large problem for the nba.
We looked pretty good for the first 10 min of the 1st quarter, too, before Yao went down. But, yea, we were altogether sharper in the 2nd half. I agree. I also agree that if we can strike a balance between the offense and defense, we will dominate many games.
I was at this game. Yao didn't do so well...made Spencer looked all-star. But I really enjoyed watching T-Mac play. He really seems like he doesn't want to play basketball anymore. Maybe I just feel that way because I compare him to Kobe and well Kobe, that guy runs up and down and throw hissy fits, showing passion for the game
maybe u should watch tim duncan, mr. boring, and compare him to KG, who grows and screams every time.
Hey guys, sorry to break the conversation, but does anyone know how to watch games online without having to pay? I'm at UT, and actually got to watch the game for the first time this preseason today. Here's the link I had that someone posted earlier: http://www.realestniggas.com/rn-tv/ Yea, I have no idea what's up with the url on that... It sucks because all I get is FSN-SW. Any help? (preferably legal but I'll consider...) Also, who is The Rock MVP? I remember you posting about how you got an interview with the Rockets last year and you were at UT. Turns out I got into BHP and came to McCombs, so I wanted a little insight on how that went for you. It'd be interesting to find out who you are. Thanks in advance guys!
His foot slid on a rebound in traffic, and he apparently tweaked his groin muscle. He went to the locker room, but returned shortly and played normally the rest of the game.
This is his greatest chance to win it all, I'm sure he wants to play. He is probably trying not to overstress his body.
Yao did look a bit out of it especially during the second quater. I think he was easing his way around just to finish off the pre-season. Spencer is a nice player but he ain't going to be like that during the regular season. If he can consistantly stroke down them lil 15 footers then he will be a really nice player. He'll probably be Brad Miller replacement for sure. Back to Yao, after the groin strained. He came back out and seems to play better if you ask me. I think this team is not quite in-sync yet. I see plenty of times when Yao was ready for the ball but the passer wasn't and when Yao not ready the passer will throw it to him. That's bit out of sync between teamates. I think we going to have to give them a few games to get it all together. Don't LOOK FOR A 10-0 start or you'll be disappointed.
agreed, i would give them 15 games to gel. This new offense is still working its way into our team. Artest is still a bit confuse when it comes to playing with a big man in the middle. he often time throw it outside or across when he's stuck. Barry on the other hand is good with throwing it inside. maybe a starting lineup of Alston Barry Tmac Scola Yao, until Battier is back. Still think artest would be better off for himself and the team to lead the second unit as the 6th man.
I think putting Brent Barry into the starting lineup would be a mistake. He's the leader of the second unit offensively. He has no problem being the floor leader when the starters sit down and he can cut down on errors that aaron or luther might make make. That's a pretty important job, imho. All three of those guys can shoot. So it's not a big deal to bring in Carl and/or Chuck with that unit and still be effective without a post up threat down low. The threat of the three of them launching threes is enough to open up the court. As long as Shane is out, I think the lineup of Yao, Scola, Artest, Tmac and Rafer should stick as the starters. They need time to work out the kinks and get used to one another.
NBA should setup a new rule that they review every suspicious flop plays after game and if flops were found, suspend the player 1 game and fine both ref (if didnt catch that) and player for that flop.
craaaap, the rockets looked so slow and rusty... Tmac and Yao both limping, pfff get healthy guys stop eating chicken. Hopefully we have guys like landry, artest, etc who can hustle and get some baskets. But this was the Kings... pfff I'm getting sceptical for the all-in-one idea..
