what if I just got totally fed up with America and decided that I wanted to move to Switzerland? would it be fair for me to complain to Swiss goverment to start teaching bi-lingual classes to my children? Even if I knew that most school classes in Switzerland are not in english? and more importantly, english is not the prominent language of the country? just saying, I'm all for immigrants who flee their crappy countries in search of a better life and more freedoms, but don't come here expecting everything to change and be catered to you, and for the most part......thats what I see. everything else, I agree with you.
To complain to them to start doing it? No that wouldn't be right. But to advocate that they do it, because it will give children a better education then yes that would be great. bi-lingual education should be done for all students regardless of their home language because it would improve education, cognitive skills etc. As far as children of immigrants, you don't have to worry. They almost always learn English.
Gore and Kerry both had leads too... but really... how over 40% of Americans today can support a guy/and a party that is supported by the same failed policies as the president of the USA... is beyond me... it shouldnt even be close...right now.. I apologize to you Cometswin, you do seem like a very good person, and probably a lil pissed off at the Bush administration, and I can't blame you, I feel totally abondoned as a person who leans closer to conservative than to the left, but I lean because of my personal beliefs and yes.......my dreaded religious values. I just get a lil bent when the same regurgitated statments like these are blurrted out...... I agree with everything else you stated, especially as the parent of 3 bilingual children, and my youngest daughter will be also, for the reason FBlade mentioned. I just think it's THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS, not the gaurantee of happiness, gotta put in a lil work ourselves to.

Thats a rich argument... since most countries I have gone to...I find that the American Expats(usually men)...tend to stick together... not socialize with the locals unless they are females... and make no effort to learn the language(s) ever think... that...in teaching a bi-lingual classes... the kids will learn quicker so they can make that adjustment... into society... be proud of your heritage... Republican Party.... = those who have money and want to keep it... those who just wannabe....

Well, I voted for the bus when it said "straight talk express." I voted against renaming it "Stop Obama!11!!!" I would vote for it again if it adopted one of my new slogan suggestions. I am a flip-flopper when it comes to the McCain bus.
