Today on 97.5 espn Calvin Murphy said that some teams where already interested in Joey Dorsey and where ready to make some offers. I have no link, Calvin just said it. Its weird though because Dorsey hasn't shown anything yet. So should we trade him? I think it depends on what, we definitely need a backup C.
I like Calvin, but sometimes he talks out of his rear. I doubt they look to trade him since they gave him a max length deal, they obviously like what they see.
That could have been because of the contract OKC gave Kyle Weaver who was drafted 5 spots later than Dorsey. Weaver got a 4 year contract starting in the $700s in his first year. First two years guaranteed, last two team options, just like Dorsey. Weaver signed his contract a month before Dorsey did.
He may be implying that it could be an opportunity to create roster space (possibly get rid of Head also as part of a package) in order to sign Wafer, Strawberry and/or Harris as well as Mutombo
Never doubt Morey, I'm sure he has many tricks up his sleeve. As many have said that Doresy is the prototype of the future NBA centers and I bet he has more value (trade wise), than the contract we signed him for. This gives Morey leverage and a asset. Now I agree, we do need the muscle and his aggressive play. I personally would like to keep him, but what if Morey could package him in a trade and come out with say another quality PG. I think that's something that's worth looking at. You never know, Morey has surprised us a few times.

I heard that from LIL C yesterday too. For some reason I havent seen much of Dorsey during these preseason games at all. Anyone of you seen him played much at all? what do you all think of him?
watched every game. he's raw and out of sync on the offensive end. plays with energy, is strong but is very foul prone (think Chuck Hayes a few seasons ago). Bad free throw shooter, good rebounder, late a lot on defensive rotations basically, he's a rookie and playing like one. I think he can be a Ben Wallace type but he has a long way to go. I don't think we can count on him as being our #1 backup center this season...resign Deke
really! well Lil C was raving about him as he's the next coming of the next great PF or something. He said most of the GM/coaches in the league are looking to get him.
If this is true, that is good news. Let's not forget that Carlos Boozer was a 2nd round pick as well. I hope we got a player here with Dorsey!!!
I know we're not really in "develop raw young players" mode, we're more in "win rings now" mode. But just imagine if Dorsey advanced like Chuck Hayes advanced. If he got better at defending without fouling, but was able to use that strength, quickness, length, and leaping ability to full effect. Maybe he should spend this season in the NBA D league and join the team late in the year. I'd love to eventually see this guy matched up with a Boozer or a Pau Gasol or a Tim Duncan in the playoffs. Think about how key Boston's young center/PF's were in their various playoff series last year. If we can get some attacking guard play and steady defense all around, we'll be very very very tough. Defense still wins championships (see the Boston Celtics, best D in the league last year).
Isn't that what we were saying about landry last year? Really raw player and look what he has developed into his 2nd year? doresy will be 25 this year and isn't young anymore? i wouldn't say RAW I would say inexperienced!
No, Raw is the right word. Landry was light years ahead of Dorsey last season in regards to offensive game. Last year we were excited about Landry's offense
