It's that time of year again for another fight with my main man Kelly Pavlik. I'm ordering this tonight on PPV at my place. I'm curious to see how Pavlik deals with Bernard's antics. Hopefully he can dictate the pace of the fight and it doesn't turn into a typical Hopkins fest of clutching and limited action. I'm predicting that Pavlik wins a unanimous decision. My girl though is also a huge Pavlik fan, and she keeps saying that he's going to knock Hopkins out in the 10th round. That'd be pretty epic since Hopkins has never been KO'ed, but I don't see it happening. Anyone else watching this one?
I hope The Ghost wears the old man out... for those who want to watch online: http://www.justin.tv/nanoware
Hopkins whooped his ass. Thought he was going to score a knock out. then he looked at press row and almost started crying... wtf?!
I like Pavlik, and he has a great story, but I have to admit, I was one of those guys who thought that everytime he stepped into the ring, he was going to get his ass kicked. He still has a great record and a great story.
thats debatable. although i agree that many big name boxing fights dont live up to the hype. mma matches can be just as boring. i mean seriously how often during ufc fights do guys just spend half the fight hugging each other on the floor.
Just read about this fight on ESPN.com and I must say I was surprised. I was expecting Pavlik to easily handle the old man.
This was a bad matchup for Pav. The guy is a one trick pony. He either knocks you out or he looks like crap beating you by a few points. BHop schooled this kid. I don't really see Pavlik standing against the elite in any division after this fight. Anyone with experience will dominate this kid. The few names he has beaten have been fighters who lost their concentration and made it into a brawl like Taylor, or just brawlers like Miranda. Where does Pavlik go from here? If he moves up he will get pounded by bigger guys and there isn't much money to be made in this division or anything higher. He can't make the 160 weight for Middleweight anymore. Maybe he could try, and maybe fight Arthur Abraham, a win against him might get him back into contention.
What makes you think he can't make 160? After the fight he said he was looking forward to dropping back down to 160 and that is where any upcoming fights will be. Hopkins was just too crafty for Pavlik, and it was stupid for Kelly to take this fight in the first place. He had nothing to gain, except a big pay day.
