Fax Machines. I never got why a blurry scrawled line worked like a real sig signed in person. Now I can just scan my sig and paste it on a document, turn it into a pdf for the other party to print out.
Traditional methods of job search, although you can still mail your resume for certain advertised positions. In some situations, it has eliminated individuals unfairly from consideration for certain positions that they apply for. Take, for example, a Fortune 500 company. For a position like Director of Marketing, Europe, an ad will generate 100-500 responses or more. So, rather than reading all the submissions, a resume scanning software system like Restrac or Resumix will "parse" or scan through resumes for keywords relevant to the position. If one has never been a Director of Marketing, but they have been a Marketing Manager and are fully prepared for the next step, if the hiring manager puts the phrase Director of Marketing at the very top of the list of keywords for the scanning system to use, a fully qualified person may be eliminated from consideration Now that I think about it, this is more of a "what has the Internet effectively eliminated."
kids learning something, when they do a homework, because before the kids had to look it up on books, and read it, at least one time, now they read the title and then copy-paste, and that how they give their homework.
Faxes are still quite prevalent in business, actually. I know at the wholesaler firm I work for, it is still the preferred method to receive signatures. But it will be out in roughly a decade.
Google obama vs. mccain. I'm sorry, but the democratic idiocy is based upon equality that has always been shown to be a pig in a poke vs. abortion which even McCain says he approves?!? Actually, I fail based on everything I rote there... I'll let you know what experience may come about. Hard to tell...
Workplace productivity (computer+internet) Growth of population . If computers can do everything we'll need less and less people.
woman... now i can type in a couple of words associated with large female parts and there i have it...instant gratification...
Timeless music. Will anybody ever revere an album like Sgt. Peppers or Dark Side Of The Moon again? I mean Stadium Arcadium was pretty damn good but it seems like it was gone in a flash, pushed aside by the 100 other CD's that came out the next week. Will anyone still listen to OK Computer in 40 years when everyone's inter-cranial flash memory will have 100,000 song files on it?
I still buy music on a CD. In fact I just bought a new CD yesterday, Junior Boys: So This Is Goodbye.
Innocence. You can see anything on the internet. Remember the joy of figuring out sex with a girl? Now kids have access to freakish **** that sets the bar far too high. And life and death is trivial- you can pull up a video of Saddam being hung to death on a hundred different websites. When I was young, that was pretty taboo stuff. And these are just a few examples. Sad.
Accountability is one. With the improved anonymity of the internet their is also a weakening sense of accountability. People write things on the internet that they would never say to someone in person. It's interesting how people's comments on websites differ so much from what you see and hear from the general public in real life.
One-Way Communication (or at least made them obsolete) Well-Known Speed Traps (not entirely, but there are a few sites on the web that give you there exact locations and personal accounts are given)
