If you could get fun bags like those at the carnival, Swordfish wouldn't have made half as much money as it did.

Word. I hear Denzel's packing a pretty hefty baloney pony himself.

    Jeff, Mrs JB:

Are you two sitting across the room from each other, tossing silly comments about fun bags and baloney ponies?

I watched the acceptance speech. I'm happy for her, but sorry - it was overly melodramatic, seemed fake and was just embarrassing. Denzel, on the other hand, was cool.

Oh, and by the way, she said "thank you" 20 times.

Oh, my god. Oh, my god. I'm sorry. This moment is so much bigger than me. This moment is for Dorothy Dandridge, Lena Horne, Diahann Carroll. It's for the women who stand behind me, Jada Pinkett, Angela Bassett, Vivica Fox and it's for every nameless faceless woman of color that now has a chance because this door tonight has been opened. Thank you. I'm so honored. I'm so honored and I thank the Academy for choosing me to be the vessel for which His blessing may flow. I want to thank my manager, Vincent Tirrincione. He's been with me for 12 long years and you fought every fight and you loved me when I've been up. But more importantly you've loved me when I've been down. You have been a manager, a friend and the only father I've ever known. Really, I love you very much.

I want to thank my mom who has given me the strength to fight every single day, to be who I want to be and to give me the courage to dream, that this dream might be happening and is possible for me. I love you, Mom, so much. Thank you. My husband who is just a joy of my life. And India, thank you for giving me peace, because only with the peace that you've brought me have I been allowed to go to places that I never knew I could go. Thank you. I love you and India with all my heart.

I want to thank Lions Gate, thank you, Mike Paseornek. Tom Ortenberg for making sure everybody knew about this little tiny movie. Thank you. Our director Marc Forster, you're a genius. You're a genius. This moviemaking experience was magical for me because of you. You believed in me, you trusted me and you gently guided me to very scary places. I thank you. I want to thank Ivana Chubic, I could have never figured out who the heck this lady was without you. I love you. Thank you. I want to thank Lee Daniels, our producer. Thank you for giving me this chance, for believing that I could do it. And now tonight I have this. Thank you. I want to thank my agent at CAA, Josh Lieberman, especially I have to thank my agents, Kevin, thank you, thank you for never kicking me out and sending me somewhere else. Thank you. Who else? I have so many people that I know I need to thank. My lawyers, Neil Meyer, thank you. Okay, wait a minute. I got to take 74 years here. I got to take this time. I got to thank my lawyer, Neil Meyer for making this deal, Doug Stone. I need to thank lastly and not leastly, I have to thank Spike Lee for putting me in my very first film and believing in me. Oprah Winfrey for being the best role model any girl can have, Joel Silver, thank you. And thank you to Warren Beatty. Thank you so much for being my mentors and believing in me. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Halle Berry herself said that she considers herself a black woman. She said that when she walks down the street people see a black person. So for that she says she's black.

"Thank you to Oprah WInfrey for being the best role model any girl could have".

I'm very glad I did not watch a second of that silly crap last night. If I would have heard the above quote from Halle Berry, I would still be cleaning the vomit from my hardwood floors this morning.

I understand that some people find Oprah's personality irritating, however I see no problem with women viewing her as a role model. Her success was not predicated on her being beautiful or marrying someone powerful. She is truly self made and that's still pretty rare for women.

As irritating as Ms. Berry was, she was only second place on the irritating scale. First place went to Julia Roberts, who giggled and grinned all the way through the Best Actor presentation. Has there ever been a more condescending presenter? WTF did she mean when she said "this is so much worse than last year"? And when Denzel won, she jumped all over him. I was hoping Mrs. Washington would run on stage and knock out a few teeth from that Muppet smile but obviously she had too much class for that. Too bad the same can't be said for Julia.

Not as tired as I am of hearing "first African-American\Black to..." anytime a Black person accomplishes something.

Another indication of just how far we have to go.

she and Denzel were in the Pelican Brief together so it's not like they are strangers. When asked who her favorite co-star is she's always said Denzel.

You guys....your tired of hearing about "first African-American\Black to..." anytime a Black person accomplishes something.

Excuse the hell out of the black people. What would you rather do....keep them down and re-instate slavery? If a black person does something that's rarely or never been done before and their recognized for it, then I WANT TO HEAR ABOUT IT!

Frankly, your mentality on the subject makes me sick. How can you be tired of hearing about it when it rarely happens anyway?

    I don't get some of you people...and I don't want to.

    Surfguy,

I think what they are trying to say, and what I am saying is that the sooner we get past the BLACK reference and realize that there is NO difference in people, then the better off we will all be.

What difference does skin color make? And if the answer is none (as it is) then why harp on it all the time?

The sooner we all move on as the HUMAN race the better.

Swordfish is rated "G" compared to her "work" in Monsters Ball.

    That's obvious.

I think you are missing the point...but then again...you "don't want to" so what's the use of me trying to explain it?

Totally my impression (I don't know the fact or how she is, this is just my off the cuff opinion) but I thought Berry put on somewhat of a self promotion show and her emotion was more about "look at me I won" than anything else last night. My wife was touched by her though, so who really knows what she was feeling. It is also true she will always be the first A A to win best lead female actor, somehow I don't think her career risks, bravery, and meaning to the growth of our culture are on the sam scale of Sidney's, Ali's, Lena Horne's, etc--which she seemed to want to imply. Also, I agree her acceptance speech was not nearly as bad as Julia's though--if you really want to pick on some look at years past ones.

I do want to go see Monster's Ball though, from everything I have heard she was a terrific actor in that movie.
