Luther is lucky he plays with two stars that demand a double team. Nobody has a problem with Luther's shooting ability. It's the decisions he makes when he decides not to shoot. Yes cutting Luther is a stupid idea. Trading him is not. DJ and Wafer can make up whatever we lose in Luther. From the looks of it, I think Wafer can shoot just as good if he got the open looks Luther does.
The first paragraph was in response to what you said about comparing him to Steve Novak. Steve Novak is at least on the same level of guys like Von Wafer, if not higher, mostly because Steve Novak can at least shoot. Guys like Steve Novak, Joey Dorsey.. and to an extent Luther Head as well.. specialists in other words, will always find a place on a team because they are cheap and extrodinary at at least one thing (In Dorseys case its defense, in Head and Novaks case its shooting). Wafer and Strawberry aren't really extrodinary at any specific skill. The rest of my quote was mostly just anger at people that are trashing Head yet jumping on Wafers nuts at the same time. I agree with the people that think we should trade him. And if we get a good deal for him, I say go for it.
Bimathuug- Jus like last yr, when yao or deke goes out, the opponets points in the paint goes up by a lot. Its great to have positional defenders, but when guys drive and don't see the length of a 7fter, its like being on gravy street. None of our 4/5 can defend the rim minus yao and deke. If yao has to miss 10 games or so before deke is resigned, now ur talking about 6'8 guys backing up or playing center. None protects the rim. Hell they can bring in jelani mccoy, calvin booth, who cares. Just get a 6'11 or taller guy that can at least change some shots and get some of the small guys off the roster. I said it last yr pre yao injury and I'm saying it now.
We can trade Head for a 1st round draft pick with Heat Heat is a poor 3 pointer team, and now James Jones, who had 44% 3pt FG last season in Blazers, is injured, so maybe we can send Head to Heat in the return of a 1st round draft pick. Heat won't improve much this season, so I think their draft pick will be pretty high.
See? This is the kind of post that I can appreciate, even though I'm proven wrong. I didn't know all the details about this medical waiver thing, hence the question in the other thread. I posted that question because I thought that might be a viable option. Now that you sir gave me the facts to say otherwise, I stand corrected. If only we have more posters like you. Unlike those whiny Pizza boys with the cocky "shut up stupid" attitude.
lets not judge too quickly, afterall it is still preseason, still remember how well novak played during preseason???
I highly doubt Miami would trade their first rounder for Luther Head. Whatever they draft is immediately better than head, lol. Like you said, they WILL be in the lottery.
Do you remember Sasha Vujacic 1 year ago? And then when Lakers be a contender he started to play very efficient. I dont see any differences between Vujacic's and Head's game, my prediction is our bench players will be way more efficient than last year and that includes Head. Also wait and see , if he continues to play like an idiot trade him before the deadline. On that time you can find more good players for peanuts.
Ah, I gotcha. Though if you put Wafer and Novak in front of me, I'm choosing Wafer all day. Novak couldn't stay on the court because he was a defensive liability. And if you close out on Novak he doesn't have the ability to go around you and take it the basket. Wafer is a lot better in those areas. Back on topic. Agree 100%. Do not CUT Luther. You TRADE him. You think we risk a chance of him losing value when he's at the end of the bench getting no PT? If Morey is contemplating trading Luther, get it done before the season starts imo.
Why would Morey tell the Chronicle he is trying to move someone? So he can have less trade value? I think what you are referring to is speculation by the writers.
I don't think he ever said he was going to trade a specific player. I read him saying he wanted to make a few minor moves, but I don't think he mentioned him specifically.
Like DPballer said, I have seen "informed speculation" by Jonathan Feigen in the Chronicle and on 610 AM. Of course, I don't know FOR SURE that Morey is trying to trade Luther, but it is quite obvious that it is an avenue he is pursuing. Morey explores all of his options. A trade of Luther (and his $1.9M guaranteed deal) is a rationale and beneficial maneuver for the Rockets.
I would agree that none of the big men on the roster last year could provide much shot blocking, but I really do think that the Rockets have a legit shot blocker in Joey Dorsey. His athleticism, wingspan and standing reach are phenomenal. I would imagine that Dorsey could probably get up higher to block a shot than Yao can (although, in fairness to Yao, Yao would likely block the shot right at the point of release). Don't let Dorsey's height fool you. He is an NBA center.
