I don't like tipping beer chicks. They just hand you a beer from behind a cooler. If you pour me a drink Ill tip you.

Yeah I tend to tip the bartenders more when I'm drinking liquor that night. Usually ends up in stronger drinks for me on the next round or next visit.

Ditto on the tipping karma thing. I guess since I've been a server/bartender, it'll come full circle when I'm on the other end and I'm waiting on a server/bartender myself.

Go through the drive thru at sonic, then you don't have to tip.

If I'm using cash at sonic, I'll tip them. Otherwise, I prepay with my card, and I can't include tip on it.

Shannon was a carhop at Sonic and she says black people never tipped her.

I usually give them a few lint/soda covered nickels that sank to the bottom of the center console in my car

I'd tip them some change even if I used my card... only I make it a point not to carry any change- in my car, on my person, or in my purse. That plays into why I tip the sonic girls when I use cash.

I tip for GOOD to GREAT service.

I don't tip for service, cheap employers and gimme, gimme employees.

Tipping use to be something you earned for effort outside of the employee manual. Now-a-days people expect tips for just showing up for work.

    Hogwash.

Sonic car hops make minimum wage ($5.85) not $2.12 or whatever it is that waiters make these days. Remember, these people aren't cooking your food, they're not bringing you refills every 10 minutes, and they don't even take your order. Their entire job is to "make" your drinks, bring the food to your car and collect your money. They don't have to take my order, get me silverware, explain the specials to me, make sure my drink is always full, give me a great experience and basically take care of all my needs for an hour or two like a regular waiter does.

So why would I tip them?

Keep in mind I used to be a waiter so I do have some perspective on this and I think there are distinct differences between what I did and what Sonic car hops do, as stated above. However, I will let them keep the change if the difference is like a quarter or less. That change would probably end up on my floorboard anyway.
