I've often thought about the procedure but I'm really squeemish about my eyes. I can put in and take out contacts and fish out the occasional eyelash, but that's about it. Anybody else had it done that was squeemish going in? How was the procedure itself? Do they drug you up?
defnittely go with baylor vision... They are the absolute best in the city... I had Prk done last december (definitely better than lasik in my mind) and I see perfectly now
i was def squeemish since i wore RGPs for 17 years and flinched everytime i had to put them in or take them out. valium was great!! they give you that and that was plenty for me. i wasn't afraid at all during the surgery, just really relaxed and obviously, trusting the doc is important and that's why i did alot of research. i'm very happy with dr. lipsky and my intralase/LASIK procedure. and my price was just shy of $4000.
I'll let you know. I tried contacts but quit after 6 months b/c it took me forever to get them in...because I have problems keeping my eye open for those, eye drops, whatever. I wouldn't say I'm squeamish, but I def. can't keep my eyes open for stuff
Why do you say PRK is better? Everything I've read says that PRK takes longer to heal from and is more damaging because the laser goes through the cornea instead of them opening it..
Ouch. My bro had PRK. He said it's horrible. I had Custom Lasik done and I am so glad I did. I held off for a while. I was nervous about my only set of eyes. But it's definitely worth it. I went to the Eye Center of Houston. All I can say is DON'T do these procedures that say they are a few hundred dollars. Spend the money on your eyes. I paid about 4K for both eyes. Good luck.
I had Intralase done at Berkeley Eye Center in June. That's the blade free lasik used on the astronauts at NASA. It was the best thing I've ever done for myself. It's like buying a new life. I highly recommend Berkeley. They might be a little more expensive than some (my lasik on both eyes cost $4400) but it is worth it since they are one of the best places in the nation to get it done. It was easy. They cleared me to drive a car 24 hours after I had the surgery. My vision is now 20-20 with either eye closed, and 20-15 with both eyes open. If you are thinking about it, do it. You will not regret it one bit.
Thanks for all the input, guys.. I've decided I will definitely get Custom Lasik w/Bladless Intralase with dr. whitten. I'm scheduled for mid-January so that I can get money in my flex spending account..can't beat tax free surgery! Will let you guys know how it went soon thereafter..
Is there anyone here that went from wearing glasses to getting lasik? I've tried contacts before and I just think I look strange without my glasses on, but mainly didn't wear them much because they were more inconvenient and they made me feel tired. I haven't tried soft ones, and I'm not sure I can even get them. I have really bad vision, especially for a 22 year old, but I can't say what it is off the top of my head. I'm just curious because my wife likes my eyes, and would prefer I get Lasik of some sort. I'm worried I might feel weird without my glasses, but maybe the feeling goes away rather quickly.
I had prk done and was in pain for 1 day and then I could see perfect. The advantage of prk is that they dont cut your eye open. Therefore if you play basketball or any other type of physical activity you never have to worry about the flap on your eye getting pulled open which would cause unreversable damage. The military only allows soldiers to get prk for this reason
My co worker is having Lasik surgery tomorrow. I'm not sure who his doctor is but most of my co workers who had their Lasik went to this doctor and they all were successful. If it had to come to me needing Lasik, I would do it because my eyes are my pathway to life.
You don't have to worry about the flap on your eye getting pulled open with Lasik after a few days either. It heals.. I mean it's like saying you have to worry about reopening the scab on your knee from 3 months ago.. just not a risk once it heals.
totally not true... If you get poked in the eye playing basketball it can easily reopen.... Thats why my doctors recommended the prk... so i wouldnt have to wear goggles to play... My doctors said he sees it happen about once a year where someone he did lasik on has the flap scrapped open by a finger
So doesn't it hurt or bother you to have them cut the lens away from your eye to do the surgery, or are you valium'd up by this time and don't really care whether they stick a hot poker in there or not.
They use eye drops that deaden your eye. That and 10 mgs of Valium and you'll pretty much let them do what they want.
