    McCain is basically doing a live attack ad.

    Obama is cool as a cucumber.

    McCain winning due to previous standards being exceeded I assume.

    He did that because he had to. Obama accused him of making the Ayers and other mud slinging topics the focus of his campaign over the past couple weeks. He had to reply quickly to such an accusation.
